Kelambakkam (Tamil: கேளம்பாக்ேம்) is a rapidly growing suburb of Chennai in Tamil

Nadu state in India. It is situated on the Old Mamallapuram Road (also known as the IT
corridor/Rajiv Gandhi Salai) and is about 35 km from Chennai. This town forms the junction of
the Vandalur-Kelambakkam Outer Ring Road (Connecting the Old Mamallapuram Road with
the Grand Southern Trunk Road). Siva Shankar Baba's (Sivashankar baba) Rama Rajya
community living center is located in Kelambakkam. Sushil Hari International Residential
School, run by Baba, is located within the community premises. Sight seeing includes Kovalam
beach, Thiruvidanthai Nithya Kalyana Perumal temple and Tiruporur Murugan Temple.

Kelambakkam has a high floating population consisting of students of Hindustan College of


Engineering, Anand Institute of Higher Technology, Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of
Engineering[1], Shree Motilal Kanhaiyalal Fomra Institute of Technology(SMK FIT) Aarupadai
Veedu Institute of Technology(AVIT) and other colleges. Kelambakkam attracts office-goers
from the nearby IT/BPO companies.

One of the most important health centers in the region is Chettinad Health City. It houses a
hospital and a nursing college called Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute (CHRI) under
Chettinad University. Chettinad University attracts students not only from India but also other
parts of Asia.

Kelambakkam is an important junction connecting ECR (East Coast Road) and GST (Grand
Southern Trunk) Road; from Kovalam to Vandaloor Zoo. It also connects Mamallapuram and
Adyar. From Kelambakkam, locations connected include (Thiruporur, Mamallapuram, Adyar,
Vandalur Zoo, Tambaram, Thirukalikundram, Chengalpattu, Tidel Park).

Kelambakkam has a bus terminus. Routes are Kelambakkam to Broadway {21H}.Kelambakkam


to Saidapet {19B}.Kelambakkam to CMBT {119,570}.Kelambakkam to Tambaram
{115,55k,55T,55D,515,555,566,517}. Other routes are Kelambakkam to T.NAGAR {M19A,
519}, Kelambakkam to Chengalpattu {Gandiban and 19D}, and Kelambakkam to
Mamallapuram {115,515,119,V.M }.

Kelambakkam has a fish market and a Saibaba Temple. The Lord Muruga temple in Thiruporur
is close to Kelambakkam.

A residential area in Kelambakkam is Sathankuppam. Many nagars have been developed here,
like Rajeswari nagar, Kanaga Parameshwaran Nagar, Balaji Nagar, Ajith nagar, Ganapathi nagar,
Lakshmi Avenue, Krishna nagar, and Sri nagar.

The population in this area is around 20000. Schools available are B.K.M Higher Secondary
School and St. Marys Matriculation School, Baba School and Government Higher Secondary
School.

The Kelambakkam quarry is a trail for off-road enthusiasts from Chennai. Groups like Jeep-
thrills and Team-BHP are regulars at this joint for off-roading.
