the main aim of this research effort is to obtain a correlation between the

undrained shear strength and the atterberg limits of red-loam soil located in
kiambaa subcounty. the disturbed method of sample collection is preferred since
undisturbed samples are very expensive to obtain. however,undisturbed samples will
be used as a control and the results obtained from the disturbed samples will be
compared to those from the undisturbed samples. the main reason why we require the
undrained shear strength is because there is a direct relationship between the
bearing capacity and the shear strength of the soil. we hope to obtain the maximum
safe bearing capacity of the red-loam soil. the results obtained from this project
will be applied in the construction industry, the safe bearing capacity will be
used to design the foundations.
