Students will be able to round whole numbers to the nearest ten and hundred using a number
line as a tool.
Students will be able to round whole numbers to the nearest thousand and ten thousand by
using the rounding cluster strategy.
Materials:

Some students have knowledge about place value but they don’t know how to round
numbers.
Solutions:
The teacher will set for her classroom rules to avoid the misbehaving issue.
The teacher will scaffold the task and move step by step to let students gain the concept.
Lesson Schedule

The teacher will start explaining her lesson by asking students questions:
What is the meaning of rounding numbers?
If the number 456 is round it to the nearest tens how you will do it?
First, the teacher will use the number line to let students round the numbers to nearest ten and
hundred and she will do examples how they can round numbers and she will move step by step
which first she will start rounding the numbers to nearest tens, nearest hundred.
After that, the teacher will give students a worksheet that include number line and numbers and
students should round them. For high and medium level, the worksheet will be rounding to
nearest hundred while the low level the worksheet will be rounding to nearest tens.
Second, the teacher will start explaining the other strategy for rounding numbers by using a flash
card for the (rounding cluster) strategy. That we have two types of numbers stingy numbers and
generous numbers (stingy numbers stay on the floor which are 1 to 4 rounding down) while the
(generous numbers climb the vine which are 5 to 9 rounding up). The teacher will use that
strategy for rounding numbers to nearest thousand and ten thousand and let students practice
some examples by using small whiteboards.
After that, students will open their books and answer questions on page 19 and 20 and that will
extend their understanding.
