PROF (DR.) NEELU ROHMETRA, DIRECTOR IIM SIRMAUR RECEIVES ‘FIRST LADIES AWARD’

Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra, Hon’ble Director of IIM Sirmaur received the 'First Ladies Award'
on January 20th, 2018. The felicitation event was held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, wherein she
joined over interaction with 100 other exceptional women achievers in the country in varied
areas. She has been selected by Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Union Minister of Women & Child
Development, for this honour for being the 'First woman to head an IIM'.
The Award Ceremony was hosted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of
India. Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi felicitated and congratulated the women achievers.
Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Hon'ble President of India along with Mrs Kovind interacted with all
the First Ladies. The occasion was graced by several other women ministers in the Union
Cabinet. The objective behind the event was to commemorate the achievements of women,
who rose through barriers, set standards in the society and did not succumb to oppressive
notions, becoming the first women to excel in the fields which were thought to be beyond
them. This unusual event was an initiative to recognize women who had the courage to tread
unusual path and succeeded in being the "Firsts”, in their respective fields.

ABOUT IIM SIRMAUR

The Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur is the fifteenth
member of the prestigious IIM family of management schools to
be established in India. The Indian Institute of Management
Sirmaur was established in 2015 by the Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Government of India, to meet the growing
demand for top quality professionals in the state of Himachal
Pradesh. The inaugural ceremony for IIM Sirmaur was held on 4th
September 2015 with the start of classes for the first batch of the
Post Graduate Programme in Management at IIM Sirmaur.
After the IIM Act 2017 came into effect, IIM Sirmaur, including
other IIMs, received the complete autonomy with the status of
‘Institute of National Importance’. Step forward, due to the
autonomous structure, IIM Sirmaur awarded MBA degree to the
students instead of PGP diplomas.
IIM Sirmaur currently operates from its temporary campus at the
Himachal Institute of Technology, Paonta Sahib in the Sirmaur
district of Himachal Pradesh. A 210-acre site has been identified
for the permanent campus at Dhaula Kuan near Nahan town in
Sirmaur district.
Taking forward the legacy of the IIM brand, IIM Sirmaur is
committed to delivering quality education, training, and research
in the management sciences. IIM Sirmaur is focused on developing
indigenous knowledge and innovative practices in an enabling
environment. The Institute strives for the seamless integration of
management education with local and global aspirations with the
understanding that management education is not just about
seeking the most competitive employment opportunities, but
rather about learning to serve socio-economic concerns through
ethical and visionary corporate leadership. IIM Sirmaur delivers
application-oriented future-aware curricula that train the
students to develop their natural talents into transferable skills, to

2ND ANNUAL CONVOCATION OF IIM SIRMAUR: 35 STUDENTS CONFERRED MBA DEGREES

The 2nd Annual Convocation of the Indian
Institute of Management Sirmaur was
held on 13th April 2018. The ceremony
was held in Paonta Sahib, at the Institute’s
interim campus. Shri Jai Ram Thakur,
Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh was
the Chief Guest on the occasion and
delivered the Convocation Address. The
ceremony was also graced by Shri Ajay S.
Shriram, Chairman and Senior Managing
Director, DCM Shriram Ltd., and
Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIM
Sirmaur, who delivered the welcome
address and awarded Degrees to the

In all, 35 students were awarded Degrees.

INTERNATIONAL IMMERSION PROGRAMME AT SDA BOCCONI, MILAN, ITALY

The three weeks credited international immersion
program for students of IIM Sirmaur was held
between June 11 – 29’ 2018 at SDA Bocconi School of
Management, Milan, Italy. It was one-of-a-kind
program offered by IIM Sirmaur in collaboration with
SDA Bocconi which aimed at providing 360-degree
immersive learning experiences by means of in-class
sessions, case analysis, simulations, company visits
and various activities that provided insight into the
Italian and European culture.
The program marked the inclusion of areas of
operations, supply chain and project management
etc., besides reflection on broadly international
business and the global economy. The custom
program complemented the IIM Sirmaur curriculum
with an added exposure to the dynamics of the
European economy, operations of leading European
automobile manufacturers. Select SDA Bocconi Faculty who delivered the sessions included Prof. Olga Annushkina's, Prof. Andrea Dossi,
Prof. Francesco Gallman, Prof. Vitiliano Fiorillo and Prof. Silvia Zamboni.
The closing ceremony was presided by Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur, Prof. Giovanni Tomasi, Director of Corporate
Custom Program and Prof. Olga Annushkina, SDA Bocconi School of Management in which the students were awarded course completion
certificates.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Giovanni and Prof. Olga congratulated the students and appreciated their interactive participation during
the sessions.

STUDENTS EXPERIENCES OF IIP AT SDA BOCCONI, MILAN, ITALY

A day that cannot be forgotten. 66 of us, off we fly to Milan, the Fashion Capital of the world
in a brand new 787 Dreamliner. Milan was just simply perfect and we had our plans
ready. Throughout the weekdays, we were diving into the ocean of knowledge at SDA
Bocconi and during the weekends, our travel journals were filled with itineraries. The
experience we had SDA Bocconi was simply mind-blowing. The teaching methodology
was to the next level. All the faculties taught us to find the solutions to the toughest
problem in the simplest and systematic way. The best part during the time at SDA
Bocconi was the factory visit to Ferrari and Maserati. I have no word to explain as it was
a dream come true. For anyone who loves to explore new places, Europe is the best
destination. During the weekends, few of us travelled to explore the natural beauties such
as Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, Lugano Lake, Mont Brie, Genova etc. and marvellous
architecture of Rome, Florence and Pisa. It was indeed a challenge for us to break the barriers
of language and cultural. The experience of IIP has broadened our mind-set and our perspective to see things from multiple angles. It also
helped in the self-development of the students of IIM Sirmaur. Most importantly, it was an eye-opener for each and every one of us that
world is full of opportunities and all you need to do is strive for it.

PGP-03 Batch

“Empowering lives through knowledge and imagination” This motto does not just encapsulate the fundamental belief of SDA Bocconi but
also the reality it is creating since its inception. Classroom learning complemented with
experiential learning through Industry visits broaden our learning and deepened our
understanding of the international business environment. In an attempt to make learning last
long, we ran torch simulation. It gave us insight into the challenges faced by operations managers
and ways to tackle them. Apart from formal learning, the natural learning that happened through
immersing myself into the history, traditions, and culture of various European countries was
altogether an unforgettable experience. We happened to exchange thoughts and ideas with many
by passers, shopkeepers, and fellow travellers which made us appreciate the beauty in
differences. This IIP brought the best out of me. Taking care of time and budget while travelling
to different countries on weekends was in itself an entrepreneurial experience. These three
weeks were undoubtedly the best part of my MBA journey.

IIM SIRMAUR WELCOMES ITS FOURTH BATCH WITH AN INDUCTION CEREMONY

IIM Sirmaur inducted its batch of 2018-20 into its family on 5th Special sessions on anti-ragging and gender sensitization
July 2018. The enrolments for the fourth batch of the Post constitute the five-day Induction programme.
Graduate Programme saw a substantial increase as compared to
the previous years. This year, IIM Sirmaur became a part of the
Common Admissions Process and admitted near double the
existing strength to offer its MBA programme.
The five-day induction event kick-started with the Induction
ceremony today with the address by Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra,
Director of the Institute. She stated that the scenic, quiet and
remote location of the institute is not a challenge, but an
opportunity as it pushes the students to be more involved with in-
house varied activities without external distractions. She
emphasized the use of management education to solve not just
corporate problems but also connect with the Country’s real
social-economic problems. Further explaining how every positive
idea can be translated into reality, she encouraged the batch to be
disciplined, committed to growth and make things happen for
themselves.
Mr Kaushal Kishore (Advisor, TRAI, Govt. of India), who was the
guest of honour on the occasion spoke about the three pillars of
success viz. perseverance, curiosity and determination. He
mentioned that giving back to society is what matters the most.
The corporate guest speaker Ms Padmini Mishrra, Senior Vice
President and HR Head of Cox & Kings talked about attitude, self-
confidence and risk-taking. She further stressed the importance of
communication and networking for success. PGP Chair, Prof.
Vaneet Kashyap conducted the proceedings of the Induction
ceremony. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof.
Vikas Kumar, Chairperson, Student affairs.

IIM Sirmaur is one of the newest IIMs in the distinguished family

of IIMs. The institute is less than four years old and has already
made a place for itself amongst pioneer B-Schools in India. The
alumni of IIM Sirmaur have taken on top corporate positions both
domestically and internationally.

In the following days series of activities ranging from sessions on

case analysis methodology, communication strategies,
icebreakers and team building exercises have been organized.

WOMEN STARTUP PROGRAMME 2018
IIM Sirmaur partnered with IIM Bangalore’s NS Raghavan Centre
for Entrepreneurial Learning for the Women Start-up Programme
2018. The programme was in its second iteration this year and has
been scaled up considerably. The Women Start-up Programme
intended to enthuse aspiring women entrepreneurs to
systematically think through their venture idea. The programme
aimed to help women develop entrepreneurial skills critical for
transitioning from the ideation stage to implementation. In
addition, the programme built managerial skill sets essential to
start and grow ventures. The programme was supported by the
Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and
Goldman Sachs.
The programme was planned in three stages. The first stage
consisted of registrants undertaking a six-week MOOC developed
by eminent faculty at IIM Bangalore. The MOOC covered specific
sociological and psychological research-based inputs to help
women overcome hurdles and lead their ventures successfully.
More than a thousand budding entrepreneurs completed the

MOOC and submitted their start up ideas. Of the entries received,
the top three hundred were slated to attend boot camps at all
partner centres.
IIM Sirmaur hosted fifteen women entrepreneurs with diverse
backgrounds and innovative start up ideas from April 2-7 for an
intensive boot camp concluding with a day of pitches. Interactive
sessions were planned on challenges of being first-time
entrepreneurs, marketing, negotiation and decision making for
start-ups, mobilizing mind body and soul through dance, design
thinking, and others. Sessions were delivered by Anil Chhikara,
founder and Chairman of Start-up India Foundation, an initiative
by a group of successful and experienced entrepreneurs to help
grow the early stage start up ecosystem in India; Shubho
Sengupta, Digital Brand Consultant and advisor to the Ministry of
Information and Technology; Jasmeet K Shan, founder of Dance
Dacha company, which focuses on mobilising the movement arts
for communication, healing and self-realisation; and Prashant
Gautam, co-founder of Acadly, an EdTech platform that boosts
participation and communication inside and outside the
classroom.
After the final pitches at the boot camps across all partnering
centres, the top one hundred venture ideas received incubation
and fellowship for a year, prototype funds for initial development
and potential seed support. IIM Sirmaur is committed to bringing
together entrepreneurial talent from across the country with
experienced mentors and industry connects so as to create a
thriving start up ecosystem in Himachal Pradesh and the
surrounding region. With the Women Entrepreneurship
Programme 2018, IIM Sirmaur is poised to make serious inroads
in fostering innovative ventures and helping women realise their
full potential as entrepreneurs.

STUDENTS ACTIVITY AT IIM SIRMAUR
EVENTS HELD
SPIC MACAY@IIM Sirmaur
Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur hosted a cultural event
by SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music
and Culture Amongst Youth) with the aim of raising awareness
about Indian heritage and encouraging the students to imbibe the
values embedded in it.
The event was graced by the presence of the founder of SPIC
MACAY himself, Dr Kiran Seth. The cynosure of the event was
Padma Shri Geeta Chandran, an ace choreographer and one of the
most celebrated exponents of Bharatanatyam. She was also joined
by her four accompanists’ S Shankar (Natuvangam), K
Venkateswaran (Vocal), Manohar Balachandirane (Mridangam),
Raghavendra Prasath (Violin) and her most ardent disciple
Madhura Bhrushundi.
Dr Kiran Seth oriented and enlightened the audience about the
historical background of SPIC MACAY. He also accentuated the
significance of including disciplines such as arts and philosophy in
the management curriculum. The main event of the evening saw
Geeta Chandran and her accompanists deliver yet another stellar
Bharatanatyam performance that was appositely acknowledged
by a rousing plaudit from the crowd.
5th September 2018: Third Foundation Day of IIM Sirmaur
The Foundation Day of Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur
was celebrated on September 5th, with much fervour and avidity
bearing witness to a spectrum of exuberating performances from
the students. What made the celebration of the event even more
special was its concomitance with Teacher’s day.

The event also featured the traditional cake cutting ceremony by
the faculties befittingly commemorating the spirit and the values
that the Institute embodies.
This was followed by some stellar performances by the students
that included solo song, dance performance and wrapped up with
an engaging and rousing medley of songs.
21st June 2018: Fourth International Day of Yoga
The Fourth International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Indian
Institute of Management, Sirmaur on 21st June 2018 with full
vigour, enthusiasm by the Faculty, staff and students from Doon
Valley School, Guru Nanak Mission Public School and The
Scholars’ Home school of Paonta Sahib.
Mr Anoop qualified and trained Yoga trainer, conducted the yoga
session. All the participants practised various ‘asanas’ of Yoga
under his supervision. It ended with Pledge, taken from Ministry
of AYUSH website. In essence, the whole session was rejuvenating
and refreshing for everyone from their daily routine.
Yoga session was followed by Yogathon competition. In this
students were asked to perform sun salutations for the
maximum number of times in given time. Each school was given 5
minutes and two winners were selected from each school.
Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations - 2018
Finally, the 10 days of joy and festivities culminated with Ganesha
Visarjan. On the last day of Ganesh festival, IIM Sirmaur bid
farewell to Lord Ganesha only to welcome him again next year.
The function started with Ganesh Puja by the students and was
attended by the Director Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra and other
faculties and staff. It was followed by celebrations encompassing
all students expressing their piety towards Lord Ganesha, and the
multicultural spirit, that IIM Sirmaur upholds. The festival ended
with the Visarjan of Lord Ganesha taking all the problems with
him, and bestowing upon us, all the happiness and prosperity.

15th August 2018: IIM Sirmaur celebrates 72nd Independence
Day
IIM Sirmaur celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with much
enthusiasm and ecstasy. Feelings of patriotism were ignited when
the National flag was hoisted by Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra,
Director, IIM Sirmaur. This was followed by the traditional
National Anthem ceremony that set the tone for the rest of the
event. The attendees then gathered in the auditorium to witness
the cultural performances by the students.
The beginning of the celebrations was marked by the auspicious
lamp lighting ceremony by the Director. One of the students
recited a Bengali poem entitled "Prarthana" by Rabindranath
Tagore. The program reached its pinnacle with singing and
dancing performances by both the batches.
The event culminated with the Director’s address wherein she
highlighted how the sense of freedom, realization, commitment
and understanding can push all as citizens of the nation to make
small contributions to make large differences in their respective
lives.
GUEST LECTURES
17th August 2018: Mr. Amit Godkar & Mr. Jinesh Jain from
Capgemini Consulting
On 17th August 2018, IIM Sirmaur launched its maiden guest
lecture under the brand 'Colloquium', which aims at creating an
open dialogue between the academia and industry. The unveiling
of the event was done by the honourable guests: Mr Amit Godkar,
Deputy Manager, HR and Lead, Fresher Campus Recruitment
Capgemini, and Mr Jinesh Jain, Program Manager – Capgemini
Consulting. The two stalwarts conducted a highly interactive
session with the students on 'Digital transformation of consumer
business'.

Mr Venkatesh Srinivasan, CEO and Co-founder of Nexus

Consulting
Mr Venkatesh Srinivasan, CEO and Co-founder of Nexus
Consulting attracted and held the interest of PGP04 Batch by
providing his insights on knowledge and communication. He
discussed his roles and various learning that he gained from his
experience, explaining the hedgehog concept, and encouraged the
students to intuitively generate entrepreneurial spirit. Towards
the end of the session, he shared insights on how to inculcate
knowledge in our lives by working on two techniques namely
SPORTS AT IIM SIRMAUR storytelling and quizzing, which would help in decision making
and enhancing networking skills.
10th – 18th September 2018: The Badminton Tournament
The badminton tournament kicked off on September 10th 2018.
As many as 35 players participated in the event. What stood out
about the event was the encouraging participation from the
female players. The knockout format of the tournament made it
even more fascinating for the audiences. The matches were
conducted across all 5 categories including Men's Singles, Men's
Doubles, Women's Singles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
The event reached its culmination on September 18th 2018,
bringing an end to a tournament stacked with some truly
exhilarating matches. Raktim and Ruchi from PGP03 emerged as
the winners in the Men's Singles and Women's Singles categories
respectively while the tandem of Samarth & Ajin and Kanika &
Neha came out on top in the Men's Doubles and Women's Doubles
categories respectively. In the Mixed Doubles format, Rohit and
Neha emerged victorious.

ABSTRACT: This research work studies a two-member
supply chain (that deals in smartphones) consisting of the
manufacturer (positioned upstream) and the telecom
service provider (positioned downstream). Customers can
purchase smartphone handset and service either separately
from the two members (free channel) or as a package
(bundled channel) from either of the members. The
smartphone manufacturer invests in the greening
improvement of the product and the customers are sensitive
to the greening improvement level. The study considers
three power structures for the bundled channel
(Manufacturer is the Stackelberg leader - MS, Telecom
Service Provider is the Stackelberg leader – TS, and where
both the players possess equal power i.e. Vertical Nash- VN)
to characterize the optimal decisions of the manufacturer –
the smartphone handset unit retail price, the greening
improvement level and the optimal decision of the telecom
service provider – the amount of subsidy to pay to the
handset manufacturer. The novelty of this study comes from
the insights derived from the analysis of the green
smartphone supply chain. The supply chain player with
superior power earns more profit but is dependent on a
condition that is a function of greening investment by the
manufacturer, customer sensitivity to greening
improvement level and customer sensitivity to prices. Also
under similar conditions, the study shows that the balanced
power structure (VN) is best for the supply chain i.e. supply
chain profits are the highest. The insights derived from
analysing the impact of greening investment and customer
sensitivity to greening on the optimal subsidy amount are
new and have not been studied before.

repurchase intentions with e-satisfaction as mediator: a
study on Gen Y. VINE Journal of Information and Knowledge
Management Systems, 48(3), 427-447.
ABSTRACT:
Shopping online is a fast-growing phenomenon. A look into
the rapid exponential growth of the primary players in this
sector shows huge market potential for e-commerce. Given
the convenience of internet shopping, e-commerce is seen as
an emerging trend among consumers, specifically the
younger generation (Gen Y). The popularity of e-commerce
and online shopping has captured the attention of e-
retailers, encouraging researchers to focus on this area. This
paper aims to examine the relationship between online
repurchase intention and other variables such as security,
privacy concerns, trust and ease of use (EOU), mediated by
e-satisfaction. A self-administered survey method is used,
and students aged between 20 and 35 years at universities
in northern India are selected as subjects. To test the
hypotheses of this study, an online questionnaire is
distributed to participants, with 309 legitimate responses
received. The data are analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 and

AMOS version 20.0. Structural equation modelling is used to
examine the model and to test the hypotheses. The results of
this study show that security, privacy concerns, trust and
EOU have a positive significant relationship with repurchase
intention. The findings also reveal that e-satisfaction has a
full mediation effect between security and repurchase
intention and also between trust and repurchase intention.
In addition, a partial mediation effect of e-satisfaction is
noted between EOU and repurchase intention and between
privacy concerns and repurchase intention.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAMME
Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur organized a
Management Development Programme on Data Analytics
for Advanced Research from 6th to 8th July 2018. The
Programme was patronized by the director of IIM Sirmaur,
Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra. Dr Vikas Kumar (Assistant
Professor-Marketing), Dr Vaneet Kashyap (Assistant
Professor-OB-HRM) acted as the coordinators for the event.
Since the last few decades, the importance of data analysis
and interpretation has increased manifold in academic
research and various business sectors. However, there
exists a number of issues related to structured research
approach like problem identification, data collection,
selection of correct research methodology, interpretation of
results and so on so forth. Therefore, the prime objective of
this programme was to tackle these issues by equipping the
programme participants with the requisite knowledge for
identifying a relevant research problem, implementation of
appropriate research design, selection of adequate data
analysis techniques and interpretation of results.
