Topic: Reducing Global Food waste

Specific Purpose: I want the Community and the Restaurant Owners To donate more of their
food scrap to local farms and agricultural services and also for people to learn the process of
donating their food scraps.

Introduction
I. Attention Getter: restaurant experiences explaining the process in which they
disposed of food along with everyone else.
II. Thesis: We need to convert food waste for animal consumption or feed
III. Preview: I will be talking about feed waste that countries are now trying to acclimate into

their system along with talking about the state of Minnesota and saying what you can do about
it.

Transition: Some have made good use of making food waste into feed waste

Body
1. Food waste in the works
A. Food waste in the world
a. Blue hill is an example of this because of how they dispose of their food. The new Yorker
reported on this asking about this and the owner pulled up a picture of a dumpster. They saw a
lot of vegetable skin in there.
b. It is said that the UK has to throw out 15 million tons of food every year. Because of this
going on they are trying to turn their landfill into pig feed.
c. Croatia is another country that has found saving a lot of money for their pigs and pig feed.
Because of this they have saved by 90,000 Dollars for every 90 days and Save over 307,000
dollars over a full year. Thanks to other ingredients that could be amended such as
slaughterhouse waste, corn silage, cheese whey and production of Methane gas could them
168,000, per 90-day period to 538,000 per year.

Transitions: You have an idea of what is going on in the world but what specifically is going on
in your back yard.
B. Minnesota’s food waste
a. Winona state farms is one of 17 licensed feeders that are used. Schools like Winona State
University who uses this service has saved over 250$ a pick up and 7,000 dollars annually.
b. Winona State University, along with St. Mary’s state do this process to save move just by
having barrels sent over from the Winona farm. They do this to provide people in that area a
more reasonable way of eliminating their food process and saving money all together. They
have been reducing the waste of this food since 1999.
c. Although it isn’t just Winona farms being responsible for their food waste. A place that has
specialized in food waste is the Minnesota Pollution control agency who is one of the biggest
promoters off stopping food waste for animals and stopping people form wasting food. They
also post rules about and manageable waste to store their food.

Transition: So what can you do?

a. Search for your nearest agricultural county line and see if you can obtain any sort of barrels I
would prefer Tri County Organics Located one mile south on Highway 23. (40 35th Avenue NE
St. Cloud MN 56304 320-493-3270)
b. If you want to reduce the consumption follow some of the basic guidelines for recycling and
food managing skills.
c. Recycle your food scraps away from other products so it is easier for these companies to
sort.

Transitions: So now that you know this

Conclusion
Review of Main Point: My point was to make everyone aware of the feed waste that was going
on in the world today
Reinforcement of the Thesis: We need to convert food into waste for animal consumption
Final Ideas: Hopefully you will all take handling your food seriously and not let anything go to
waste.
