Skyfactory 3 Tips and Tricks

Since commenting got into a state that was completely impossible I rolled back a
month old version and turned off commenting.

The tips and tricks are split up into sections by when they are most applicable. Some
tips are only early game etc. This also does not explain the total basics of skyblock (the ex
nihilo progression), just how to make it smoother. Check the outline to quickly access areas
of interest.

Important: If you have a tip you would like to add, the fastest way is to request access to the
google doc and put what you would like to add as the comment, alternatively message me
on reddit u/tommassino. If there is multiple things, request access and say so in the
comment.

Disclaimer: Unfinished, and not a comprehensive guide, just a collection of few tips and
tricks.

Wood Age
The section of the game before you have a cobblestone generator. The ultimate goal
in this section of the game is to start generating cobble with a lava cobble generator. To do
this you will need at least 15 cobblestone from sieving dirt (8 for a furnace, 3 for bottles, 4 for
dust for clay).

Starting up:
● Dig down and destroy two pieces of log, use one to build a crafting bench, use the
other one to make a crook. Afterwards, use the crook to crook the top layers of
leaves to get maybe an extra sapling or so. Only after that destroy the piece of wood
that starts the tree decay.
● You don't have to craft a crafting bench right at the start: Look at ground, press C,
right click items onto that crafting frame. Right click to retrieve result.

Dirt Production Tips:

● You can hammer wood to get wood chips, which you can compost.
● Use wood and saplings to make wood shears to shear leaves to compost.
● Sprinting and twerking (turn around spamming shift) gives saplings growth ticks.
● Don’t forget to vein-mine stuff (leaves, wood) - hold down key left of 1 (; ` ~) while
chopping wood (does not work with empty hand)
● If you sieve dirt with a flint mesh you get diorite and other weird cobblestones, craft
into slabs and back into cobble to get a little bit of cobble early on to get stone
shears, or just help with the first few cobblestone you need to get started.
● Making the rod of the land from botania. Basic botania will let you make a rod of the
land which with mana in a mana tablet will let you place dirt infinitely (Until you run
out of mana).

Food:
● Apples - apple trees - combine 3 apples with a sapling
● Small upgrade - Apple Juice - Made by putting a Juicer and an Apple in the Crafting
Grid
● Cooking silkworms
● If you face up during rain it fills up your hunger.
● If you are completely run out of food, you can kill yourself in order to restore hunger.
(grave mod is installed)
● Rotten Flesh can be put on drying racks to make monster jerky, which can be used in
the jerkynator

Water:
● Wait for rain into wooden barrels
● Make a log crucible and put leaves in it.
● You can use bottles for early game instead of a bucket to move water.

Getting bonemeal (for crucible):

● Sieving dust - not really viable unless you have tons of dirt
● Make a small darkroom ~25 blocks away from your base and kill skeletons, you only
need 3 bones to make a crucible.

Farming:
● Biome may dictate specific requirements that need to be met before farm animals will
spawn. For instance, in a forest biome, you’ll actually need to plant a few trees in
your lawn.
● Worms are a very easy early game growth accelerator.

Stone Age
The section of the game you have the basic cobblestone generator (lava and water
touching). The ultimate goal of this section of the game is to setup automate cobblegen,
some kind of power generation and build up resource generation.
Rough goals: automate cobble gen, automate lava gen, get power, automate ore sifting.
General tips:
● A tinker’s pick with at least one iron component will have the magnetic property,
which helps with not losing stuff in the void.
● Stepladders are a handy utility to traverse height - Drop the stepladder, get to the
top, right click it and it's instantly back in your inventory.
● There is a block in-game that is called “Cobblestone Generator”. It produces
cobblestone without power autonomously. It takes a bucket of water and a bucket of
lava to craft

Cobblegen tips:
● At the start your base including the area around the cobblegen will be made out of
wood. Thats fine for a little while, but the first few cobble you mine should be used to
replace wood around your lava with cobble. You will be mad if you afk for a while and
when you come back your base is gone :)
● A pretty cool first Crucible cobble generator ive seen is
http://i.imgur.com/4jxKssQ.png by reddit/u/Asddsa76 , but imo its too much work to
setup, you only need like a stack or two of cobble to get the automatic gen.
● First automatic cobblegen is the cobblestone generator from the mod Tiny
Progressions. You only need 1 lava bucket (which you get back), use pams water or
water bowls instead of the water bucket. You can upgrade these to tier 2 with 8 iron
fairly easily. Right-click to get cobble, or if you place a chest on top of it it will fill up
the chest.

Sifting tips:
● Dont forget you can compress gravel, sand, dust and sift it in a heavy sieve
● Check this spreadsheet by Softwerker for sifting returns. [Source]
● Instead of heavy sieving, you can use an array of 5x5 sieves. Whenever you put stuff
in a normal sieve, it puts it in neighboring sieves and the right clicks get applied to
them as well. The disadvantage of this comes in when you start upgrading your
meshes (iron and higher), when you should probably switch to heavy sieving.
● iron mesh to get iron, diamond mesh to get redstone and gold

Alternatives to sifting resource generation:

● Orechid from botania - feed it with mana and stone to spawn ores randomly
● Mystical agriculture crops (Given enough xp an acceleration wand will speed this up
considerably)
● Chickens
○ Breed 10-10-10 Smart chickens, then breed your resource chickens with the
Smart Chickens to get 9-9-9 resource chickens. This can save a lot of
breeding with your resource chickens.
Lava generation:

production speed:
● 1x torch
● 3x lava
● 4x burning netherrack
● 8x fire water (probably the easiest and most efficient way to get lava in mid
stage)
● 10x mega torch
● 15x awakened draconium
● 20x uranium

Transfering Lava
● Buckets
○ Clay buckets are single use with lava
○ Manual interaction needed
● Extra Utilities - Fluid Transfer node [Cheap]
○ One in, many outputs (add more pipe)
○ Starts slow, can be upgraded with stack or speed upgrades and more
input nodes.
○ Needs 3x Iron Ingots (Bucket)
● Ender IO - Fluid Tank [Fast]
○ 6 I/O block faces
○ Needs: 4x Iron Bars + 4x Iron Ingots

Base building
● With a cobblegen you can easily start working on expanding your living space
● Craft a chisel (not the chisel & bits one) and use it to segment your base into smaller
sections of blocks separated by a different type (chisel type) of block. That way if you
accidentaly veinmine your floor, you wont lose your whole floor.
● The mod Better Builders Wands contains tiered builders wands from stone to nether
star - you can start super early with the stone wand to expand your base.

Power options:
● Magmatic Generator - generating lava isnt hard to setup, just pump it into magmatic
generators
● Once you get a decent amount of ender pearls, consider a flux network (wireless RF)
Ore doubling:
● Tinkers smeltery - cheaper option and you can make some cool tools
● Sag mill / alloy smelter combo - needs power and more expensive

Mob Spawning:

Passive Mobs:
● Build away from you base and make a grass dirt pad
○ You can get grass seeds from sieving dirt
● Neither you, nor the spawn chunk can be within 24 blocks of any mob
spawning area.
● Ideal location is 25-50 blocks away. [Source]
● Build as close to y=1 as possible, because of the way the game mechanic
spawns mobs.

Hostile Mobs:
● Sieving dirt can give you rice seeds, which can make a bunch of different
things, including slime balls and sugar. You can use these to make vector
plates, which move mobs around without stopping them spawning.
● Killing mobs options - punji sticks (you need sugar cane), spikes from
extrautils
● Collection loot options - hopper, item collector (random things)
● Neither you, nor the spawn chunk can be within 24 blocks of any mob
spawning area.
● Build as close to y=1 as possible, because of the way the game mechanic
spawns mobs.
● Suggestion: Build with half-slabs where you do not want mobs to spawn.
● combine 4 loot bags of a lower tier to get a higher tier (the epic loot bags can
drop super good loot, check jei)

Growing things:
● Mystical agriculture is extremely powerful for resource generation, start working on
getting essences early, the first few you need to get from mobs
● Watering can speeds up growth (early stage)
● Mechanical user with a watering can for automatic growth speed (needs ender pearl)
- TODO what mech user mode confirmed to work
● Growth Crystals make your plants grow with a speed of light. They don’t require
energy or fuel. Combine them with magical crops to get insane amount of essences.
● 8 chicken manure surrounding a single dirt in a crafting grid gives you fertilized dirt,
which turns into fertilized farmland by the use of mattock/hoe. This applies a
bonemeal effect at random intervals to whatever grows on it.Worms are a very easy
early game growth accelerator
● Garden Cloche - grows stuff you put in it, fast, compact (doesn't use a large plot of
land, only the block under it), relatively cheap. OP

Automation:
● With a single magmatic generator you can power two automatic hammerers
● automatic hammer -> compactor -> automatic sieve setup is fairly straight forward
once you have a few machines, transfer pipes or item conduits to move stuff around
● As soon as possible, switch to Ender IO item conduits instead of transfer pipes. They
are a lot faster. They are a bit expensive though.

Flight:
● you can get an angel ring fairly quick.
● Sieve for a little bit to get the redstone (enough for rings, hand mill, resonator, two
water Mills) and gold ingots needed.
● Chicken ring: easy items minus pearls... easiest I've found is to make your mob
spawn 3 tall and kill roaming enderman or the cursed doll in witch water for a few.
● Squid ring: again easy items. Sieve for diamonds.
● Angel ring: here's where you have to get a little creative. For the drop or evil, add a
stream of witch water to your mob farm... warning: best if automated with diamond
spikes as red creepers will explode if close enough. To capture the ghast build a box
slightly smaller than a ghast with a witch water well. Use golden lasso to pick up a
squid, drop squid in water and if you made your box correctly, the ghast will spawn in
without being able to see you and will take damage from being stuck in the wall.
Keep an eye on it's heart bar and use the cursed lasso when it's below two hearts.
Warning: don't spam cursed lasso or you might pick up ghast and respawn it but this
time it will be able to faze through the wall and now you have a ghast floating around
your base. That pretty much covers the tricky parts.

Power Age
The pack branches out in many different directions, its pretty hard to cover everything. Just a
shortlist of a few tips. The mods with some progression built in include: Draconic evolution,
Botania, Blood magic. Other notable/cool mods are: Refined storage, Extreme reactors,
Advanced generators, Super circuit maker, RFtools

Draconium progression tips:

● Squid in witch water spawns a Ghast - if you are having problems capturing it, make
a ender io blast proof glass cage with witch water in.
○ To make witch water place a barrel of water above Mycelium [Source]
● Skeleton in Witch water gets turned into a Wither skeleton - combo this with the Mob
Masher with beheading upgrade to get a lot of skulls for wither farming
● Wither resistant blocks - ender IO Reinforced Obsidian - pretty costly, Wither-proof
Block from Mystical Agriculture, …
● Killing your first ender dragon is easy with angel wings, which you can easily make at
this point.

Draconium fusion crafting automation:

● kinda figured it out, still needs some work probably
https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/5n5ya9/sf3_fusion

● _autocrafting/Extreme reactors:
● The best (in terms of heat conductivity) extreme reactor passive coolant is Grapite
blocks - reference
https://github.com/ZeroNoRyouki/BigReactors/blob/master/src/main/java/erogenousb
eef/bigreactors/api/IHeatEntity.java

Refined storage:
● First thing you should automate is building the bits for refined storage (processor bits,
cores, patterns, storage drives).
● An easy cheap first storage system is a colossal chest connected to a controller with
a external storage module. It can probably store as much as a 4k drive and gets you
started on automating building a 64k drive. With this don't go overboard with the
colossal chest it can cause your game to slow down and lag (fps and using the RS
system)

Botania:
● TODO
● To get mystical flower petals, bone meal grass and harvest red + yellow flowers. Use
these to make floral fertilizer which you use on grass to get mystical flowers. If there
are two-block tall plants use shears on them. Now you can craft the flowers into
petals.
● Get a crusher from Actually addtions to gain 3 dye per flower.
● Overgrowth seeds do not stop mana generating flowers from withering away that
wither away

Blood magic:
● Start off by crafting a Sanguine Scientiem, it is not actually from the blood magic mod
so it may be overlooked by some. It is a book that basically tells you everything you
will need to know about this mod although not all.
● When it comes to your first blood alter I recommend setting up a basic dropper mob
farm above it with 4 sacrifice runes. http://imgur.com/a/dePzV I use this design,
works well in conjunction with certain mods to displace mobs into the water channel.
