She understood thatthe process of creating units is an aid tothe intellectual and creative growth ofa professional teacher. some lessons and units wil lat yoars while lothors need to be continually adjusted, Beatrice was also very interested in the iffeent situations teachers face with classroom management. Every lesson I [saw Beatrice teach showed very strong classroom management skils:_ students were motivated, busy, and under contol. [Beatrice came to adopt one ofthe principles | believe infor an effective teacher: you have to be a compassionate policeman, Nothing should happen without your permission. And when something happens without permission iis your choice of how to respond depending on the student, the infraction, the context ofthe school, the previous history of the student. We discussed lat length a particular student, high achieving yet disruptive. | watched Beatrice with this student correcting, adjusting, [showing patience yet not allowing other students to be distracted. Beatrice was very successful with that situation. Beatrice also has @ number of personal attributes that | witnessed in the classroom that derive from her very diverse fe lexperionce. Beatrice is bilingual, has lived on two continents, has afar, has had different jobs before enroling in the [Faculty of Education, and is very aware of the high quality of public education in Alberta. She has an appreciation for the lopportunty she sees for her and for her students. Her fe experience has shaped her teaching.
