Short description of the route

A hiking tour that offer a wonderful view of the Prokletije massif with peaks in Montenegro Trojan,
Karaula, Karanfili, Očnjak,, Bor, Dobra Kolata, Zla Kolata and then ... Kucka planina, Planina,
Komovi, Visitor, Starac, Gusinje, Plav, Plavsko jezero, Zuti kamen and Djevojacki krs.

Prokletije are the largest mountain massif of the Balkan. They belong to the mountain range of
Dinarides and they are the highest and most impressive part.
The Prokletije area is administratively divided between Albania, Serbia - Kosovo and Montenegro.
The massif of Prokletija extends between the Skadar Lake and the Zeta ravnica in the southwest, the
river Drim in the east, Metohija and Mokra Gora in Metohija on the northeast and the Komovi in
the West.
Because high sharp peaks, the term "Balkan Alps" is often used for Prokletije. Etymologically
means Proklete planine ("damned mountains") which symbolizes the inaccessibility of this space.
The first hiking trails in the "forbidden mountains" was 20 years ago, because the history, until that
time Prokletije was dangerous and prohibited every access to the border region with Albania.

The Montenegrin Prokletije are divided into three parts:

North - in the area of the municipality of Rožaje and Berane

central - includes the territory of the municipalities of Plav, Gusinje and Andrijevci and
south - Kucke planine (mountains) and Malesija till the Skadar Lake.
The Montenegrin Prokletije are set of mountain peaks situated between the Kučke planine
(mountains) in the west and Bogićevica in the east.
In the symbolic sense, the most famous Montenegrin mountain is Lovćen. Montenegrin Prokletije
are the three highest mountain peaks of Montenegro: Zla Kolata (2,534), Dobra Kolata (2,526) and
Maja Rosita (2,525).
The highest peak of Prokletije is Maja Jezerces 2,694 m and is located in Albania, the other is
Djeravica 2,656 m (Serb - Kos) and the third Maja Bruke Haft 2,625 m (Al).

The climb of this route to Volusnica and Popadija is interesting for two reasons: first - in this way,
the denivelation of climb is reduced about 400 mnm and the other - passing through this direction is
an opportunity to see Katun Popadija and the peaks of Karaula, Trojan and Popadija .
The path from the asphalt climbs up to the katun Popadija, going through the forest.
The hiking tour starts from the cottage on the katun Popadija. From katun in the direction to the top
of Popadija, about 1 km of length of trail poor macadam road, so using shortcuts, you can pass very
quickly this section.
From katun you will start move southward slightly upward towards the forest, where the katun
extension extends the macadam road. Trail of katun Popadija until the pass of peak Popadija is not
marked, but the orientation is very simple because a lot of walking tours pass through.
You make shortcuts through the woods and groves, then you come out on a pond which, as a pelvis,
descends from the lower peaks of the Trojan and the peak of the Popadija. The pass of Ćafa is a
valley to the left of the top of Popadija. The terrain is clean, the trail are grassy
After the passage of the karaula, a wide walking trail starts, which begins to climb Kofta.
Approximately in the middle of this section of the trail is a source.
When you exit pass of Ćafa (1,874 m) to the left of it is the highest peak of Volusnica - the
Talijanka (2,057 m) This is one of the most beautiful views of mountain peaks in Montenegro that I
ever see!!!
From the passage of Ćafa you turn right and begin to steer ascend, to the peak of Popadija (2.030
m). The terrain is clean, the climb is quite steep, which is a special of this peak.
From the peak of Popadija, you descend to the valley a few tenths of a mile, and then, less steep
ascend than the previous one, you climb to the highest peak of Volusnica - Talijanka (2,057 mnm).
The peaks of Popadija and the Talijanka are grassy and safe, with fantastic views of the
environment. View of Karanfile is fascinating !!!
Return from the peak of the Talijanka to the Ćafa pass is possible by a circular trail through the
lower peak of Volušnica, from where is a great view of the valley Grebaja.

Beginning of the trail: 1,820 mnm, Vodeni do (monument to the mountaineer), from the road
Žabljak - Trsa - Plužine.
The goal: Big Škrčko lake 1,686 mnm, Little lake Škrčko 1,711 mnm. Near the Škrčka Lake there is
a mountain lodge at 1.723 m.
Denivelation: 685 m to the mountain hut. The trail goes through Škrčko ždrijelo (2,114 mnm).
Length of the track: 5.1 km.

period of less mountain attendance.

Škrčko zdrijelo, but the orientation is very easy; has - in the rest of the trail.

Short description of the route:

A hiking tour that offers the most beautiful views of the Durmitor massif - hiking pleasure and
experience!

The trail starts from the asphalt road Žabljak - Trsa near the Vodeni Do, about 800 m before the
crossroads. At the beginning of the trail, right next to the road, there is a monument to a
mountaineer and an extension along the road with wooden benches, where is parking place.

The specificity of this trail is that it passes over the pass - Škrčko ždrijelo, first half part of a trail is
ascend, while the other half represents the descent from the road to the Škrčka lakes.
At the beginning of the trail, behind the monument, it descends into the valley that continues on
Vodna Do, and then the trail climbs steeply along to Prutaš.
After out of the valley is a fantastic view of Škrčko ždrijelo, as well as on the slope which rises
from the gorge to the left towards the top of Prutaš. Continue under the peak of Prutaša, is clearly
visible pastoral path. The trail is semi-circular, almost straight goes further about 1 km, all the way
under the Škrčko zdrijelo. The last about 500 m before the pass of the Škrčko zdrijelo, trail is steep
and stony, and on this section the denivelation is over 100 mnm.
Škrčka valley is a practical center of the Durmitor massif, so visiting these areas is an unforgettable
mountain experience!
From the Škrčko zdrijelo, the trail descends steeply down the next 1 km to the valley below the pass
Samar. It's the hardest part of the trail for the return. From the cavity to the Škrčje jezero, there are
still some 1.5 km long trail. After the half-way of this section passes - the mountain hut appears
right ahead, and on right to valley for the first time opens the view of the Big Škrč Lake. From the
part of the trail just before the hut, you can not see lakes: Veliko Škrčko Lake is located right in the
valley and is covered with forest, and the Malo Škrčko Lake is located to the left of the house and it
comes through a smaller rise. Mountaineering center "Škrka" is very good . During the period from
June to October, the guard of NP "Durmitor" is there, so in the house it can overnight. In addition to
the house there is a fountain with drinking water.
