2. Identify Grade Level- Kindergarten
i. K.CC.1 - Count to 100 by ones and by tens
1. Write one enduring understanding. (What you want all students to know)
a. Numbers have names and we use them to help us count them.
2. Write your 3 essential questions. (These will guide (beginning, middle & end) the
students in reaching an understanding)
a. What are numbers?
b. How do we name numbers?
c. How do we count?
3. Choose what assessments will be appropriate for the student variance in this class
(incorporate age-grade appropriate, students’ interests and preferences). These
assessments will;
a. Determine readiness levels,
b. Manage the learning process and
c. Allow students to demonstrate his/her mastery of the content/skill via a
product(s).
List Assessment Choices:
a).Pre-assessment – Teacher will read One Fish, Two Fish to the class. The
class will read along if they are able to. Teacher will take note of students who
are having difficulty reading. Afterwards, teacher passes out paper with a certain
number of fish on it. Students are asked to count the fish and raise their hand
when they are finished. Once they are done, the teacher confirms if the answer
is correct. If it is not, the teacher will assist the student.

b. Ongoing/Formative Assessments –

Teacher will teach students numbers in the form of a song. Students will
learn the song and eventually be encouraged to sing along.

Students will play online games chosen by teacher (for example, the
Curious George counting chickens game.) Any students having trouble with the
game will be assisted by the teacher.

Students also have the choice of playing a counting game with cards
supplemented by the teacher. Students will count given objects on the cards.

Throughout these lessons, students will each be given a red, yellow, and
green cup. These cups will be stacked. They will keep the green cup on top of
their work area if they are having no difficulties; teacher will still check in on

them to ensure this is true. A yellow cup means they are having some difficulties,
and a red cup means they are not understanding a lot or anything at all. The
teacher will assist these students.

c. Summative/Mastery Assessment –
Students will be given a small project to do at home. They will be given 5
different common things found in a household and they will count how many
they have. They may present their findings any way they choose; they may take
pictures, they may draw, they may write, or bring in some visual aids. They will
count how many chairs they have, how many beds they have, how many people
are in their house, the amount of pets they have, and finally, how many pets
they wish to have. (This number can be anything - up to 100!) The hand out has
visual aids on it for struggling readers/those learning the English language.
Students will have a week to do this, and the teacher will check on their progress
each day. Their final project will be completed in class (visual aids can be printed
out in school if need be) with materials from teacher.

4. Choose what tasks will be appropriate for the students’ variances in this class
(incorporate students’ interests and preferences) to provide students with an
optimal opportunity to be successfully engaged in the learning processes.
List Learning Tasks/Activities:
1. The chosen online counting games and physical counting games with
have familiar characters/figures to ensure that the students interest is
kept. Connecting with their interests is crucial.
2. While learning numbers, students will learn a song to help them
remember and to keep their attention. Numbers should be represented
visually in an appealing way.
3. The project is varied so that students have the freedom to decide what
they prefer to do; at the same time, it focuses more on them so that they
can focus on their interests and share something with their peers. It also
helps students to get to know each other better!
5. This learning experience (Tasks & Assessments) should answer these questions.
● What does it mean for my students to understand this topic in
ways that are relevant, authentic and give them power as
learners? Address learner needs & choice.
● What can I do to make sure each of my learners is fully supported
in order to facilitate them achieving an understanding of this
topic? Address learner needs & choice.

8. Choose what product(s) will demonstrate the students’ mastery of content /skills
for the 3 levels.
a. Summative/Mastery Assessments/Product(s)

Advanced – Because the students already either have a complete

understanding or an already complete understanding, it’s essential to have parts of
the project at home and in class. Some of the project is about gathering information
as well as it is about putting it together, so to ensure they’d mastered the
content/skills, theirs is simply putting together the project. The teacher should also
ensure that these advanced students somewhere gain knowledge they didn’t have
before on the subject. Teacher should also ensure that students are kept focused on
their work and work with them when they are not feeling challenged/felt as though
their attention is not being kept.

Average – Final project/ongoing assessments are crucial to ensuring the

students remain on track. The final project assembly being done in class is to ensure
that the teacher can help if the students are for whatever reason led astray.

Challenged – The final project being finished in class ensures that the teacher
can assist any struggling learners whenever they need it for whatever reason.
