Standard Preparation
for Plastic Parts
General This system is used to repair damaged flexible or rigid plastic parts, or to refinish replacement plastic
parts.

Cleaning Wash all areas to be refinished with water and a mild


detergent soap. Rinse thoroughly and let dry.

Clean all areas to be painted with plastic cleaner. R-M 902 Plastic Prep-Cleaner, then
R-M 909 Final Wipe

Sanding Prepare any areas that are to be painted by scuffing with a Scotchbrite #7447
fine scuff pad.

Cleaning Use an air blow gun to remove all traces of dust and dirt R-M 902 Plastic Prep-Cleaner, then
from the cracks and surfaces of the vehicle. R-M 909 Final Wipe

Clean all areas to be painted with plastic cleaner.

Do not allow plastic cleaners to dry on the surface. Apply


wet and then dry with a clean rag.

Pre-prime For bare plastic on flexible plastic parts, apply one coat of R-M 868 1K Plastic Primer
868, 869 or 870. Do not sand. R-M 869 1K Low VOC Adhesion Promoter
R-M 870 High Solids Adhesion Promoter
For bare plastic on semi-rigid or rigid parts, apply one coat for Plastics
of 868, 869 or 870.

Primer Surfacer For flexible parts, apply 2 or 3 coats of primer surfacer 800K 2K Primer Surfacer
mixed with flex additive over any areas that require filling. 846 1K Acrylic Primer
After drying, finish sand with P240 to P320 grit dry, or 892 Flex Agent
P280 to P500 grit wet. See the primer surfacer technical LP20 Epoxy Primer (rigid parts only)
reference sheets for flexed mix ratios.
LP610 Low VOC Primer
For semi-rigid or rigid parts, apply 2 or 3 coats of primer LP620 Low VOC Primer (rigid parts only)
surfacer. After drying, finish sand with P240 to P320 grit 892 Flex Agent
dry, or P280 to P500 grit wet.

Sealer Apply 1 medium wet coat over entire part. Allow to flash 800K 2K Primer Surfacer
for 20 to 30 minutes. See the sealer technical reference LP20 Epoxy Primer (rigid parts only)
sheets for flexed mix ratios. LP610 Low VOC Primer

Standard Preparation for steel,


aluminum, & galvanized metals
General Use this procedure to prepare bare steel, aluminum, zinc coated or galvanized metals.

Cleaning Remove all traces of oil, grease, welding residue or any 203 Wax and Grease Remover, then
other material with wax and grease remover. Remove 139 Final Wash Cleaner
any traces of rust by sanding, wire wheel, brush or
sandblasting. Remove all traces of paint stripper by
following manufacturer’s instructions.

Sanding Steel: dry sand with P80 to P180 grit sandpaper.

Aluminum: dry sand with P120 to P180 grit sandpaper.

Zinc or galvanized metal: use coarse scuff pad. (Do not remove zinc or galvanized coating.)

Cleaning Blow off any dust and reclean metal with 139 Final Wash 139 Final Wash Cleaner
Cleaner.

Do not allow cleaner to dry on the surface. Apply wet and


then dry with a clean rag.

Notes Prime bare metal as soon as possible to prevent further oxidation.

Standard Preparation for


OEM and cured finishes

General Use this procedure to repair or refinish OEM finishes or fully cured, sound old paint work.

Cleaning Wash all areas to be refinished with water and a mild


detergent soap. Rinse thoroughly and let dry.

Clean all areas to be painted with 203 Wax and Grease 203 Wax and Grease Remover, then
Remover, then do a final wipe with 139 Final Wash 139 Final Wash Cleaner
Cleaner.

Sanding Dry sand all painted areas and any body filler areas that will be primed with P240 grit sandpaper. Be
sure to only prime over sanded areas.

Sand any areas that will be topcoated directly with P400 grit or finer wet or P320 grit or finer dry.

Prepare any areas that are to be blended into by compounding and scuffing with a fine scuff pad.

Cleaning Use an air blow gun to remove all traces of dust and dirt
from the cracks and surfaces of the vehicle.

Clean all areas to be painted with pre-paint cleaner 139 139 Final Wash Cleaner
Final Wash Cleaner making sure to remove all residue. Do
not allow pre-paint cleaners to dry on the surface. Apply
wet and then dry with a clean rag.

Supreme PLUS Basecoat


Blending Procedure
U.S. National Rule VOC

General Supreme PLUS Basecoat U.S. National Rule VOC is based upon a modified acrylic resin system that can
be blended for the repair of original basecoat/clearcoat finishes.

Preparation Follow the appropriate procedures in the “Standard Preparation” section.

Pre-prime Apply 1 or 2 coats of precoat primer to all bare metal LP20 Epoxy Primer
areas. Allow sufficient flash time between coats. Do not LP100 Etch Primer
sand. Allow to dry for 30 minutes before applying primer
surfacer.

Primer Surfacer Build up any damaged areas with 2 or 3 coats of primer H1000 1K Waterborne Primer *
surfacer. After drying, sand dry with P320 grit sandpaper 800K 2K Primer Surfacer
or sand wet with P400 grit sandpaper. Apply primer 846 1K Acrylic Primer
surfacer per technical reference sheets. LP20 Epoxy Primer
* Dry sand only and can not be used over LP100. LP610 Low VOC Primer
LP620 Low VOC Primer

Sealer A sealer can improve holdout, maximize adhesion and 800K 2K Primer Surfacer
minimize sand scratch swelling. Apply sealer per technical LP20 Epoxy Primer
reference sheets. LP610 Low VOC Primer

Blending Procedure

Blending Repair area should be sanded with P320-P400 grit sandpaper


Procedure for topcoating with Supreme PLUS Basecoat.
Sand the rest of the panel with P800-P1000 grit sandpaper.
Clean area with pre-paint cleaner. 139 Final Wash Cleaner
Apply 1 coat of LA1202 mixed 1:1 to 1:3 with LR11 over the
area to be blended, let that flash for 10 minutes.
Apply color as needed to achieve proper hiding, make sure to Supreme PLUS Basecoat
stay inside the area with the LA1202 mixture on it.
Blend out color as needed into LA1202 mixture.
Allow 10 minutes flash before applying first coat of clear over LC4000 Clearcoat (High Solids version
entire blend area. only)
LC4100 High Solids Clearcoat
Apply second wet coat of clear over the entire panel.
LC4500 Express Clear

Clean area with pre-paint cleaner. 909 Final Wipe (low VOC mix)
Apply 1 coat of LC4200 or LC4800 mixed 4:1:600-800%
with LR21 over the area to be blended, let that flash for 10 Supreme PLUS Low VOC Basecoat
minutes.
Apply color as needed to achieve proper hiding, make sure to LC4200 Low VOC Clearcoat
stay inside the area with the over reduced clear mixture on it. LC4800 Low 2.0 VOC Express Clear
Blend out color as needed into over reduced clear mixture.
Allow 10 minutes flash before applying first coat of clear over
entire blend area.
Apply second wet coat of clear over the entire panel.

LF01 Low VOC Flattener

Description: Limco LF01 is a flattening agent that may be added to all Limco Low VOC Supreme PLUS Single
Stage Topcoats and Limco Clearcoats for gloss reduction. Limco LF01 mixes easily and allows
flattening to the extent desired.

Mixing: Stir product thoroughly for 5 - 10 minutes before using.


Add up to 100% of LF01 to Ready For Use product (paint and hardener, reducer) Limco mixture.
Additional reduction is optional.
Ensure proper flash-off periods are observed when spraying flattened products to prevent
additional gloss.
Polishing finishes containing LF01 will cause gloss levels to increase.

DO NOT use LF01 in any Basecoat color.
Can be mixed with any Low VOC Limco product and still be VOC compliant.

Mixing: Stir product thoroughly for 5 - 10 minutes before using.


Add 25% - 50% of LF10 to the catalyzed (paint and hardener, no reducer) Limco mixture. Additional
reduction is optional.
Ensure proper flash-off periods are observed when spraying flattened products to prevent additional
gloss.
Polishing finishes containing LF10 will cause gloss levels to increase.

Remarks: Always check local VOC laws to ensure that the use of these Limco products is compliant in your
area.
DO NOT use LF10 in any Basecoat color.
Cannot be mixed with any Low VOC Limco product and still be VOC compliant.
RFU formulas for Limco Clearcoats are available.
