Major Works
o Land acquisition
Acquisition of private land for headworks, water conductor pipe alignment, penstock
pipe alignment and power house almost completed.
• Construction of Camps
Construction of camps, staff quarters and office at headworks site and the powerhouse site of
the project.
Staff quarter, Office and Guest house at Headworks site & Powerhouse Site
The construction of civil surface works including hydro-mechanical works of the project, which
includes the construction of headworks, desilting basin, water conductor pipe, penstock pipe,
powerhouse, tailrace and switchyard and all related hydro-mechanical works, was awarded to
MS Rasuwa Construction Company Pvt. Ltd. in February 2015. Considering the necessity of
smooth interface coordination between civil and hydro-mechanical works, the HM works were
included in civil contract package. The prime contractor Rasuwa Construction Company Pvt. Ltd.
has appointed Machhapuchhre Metal and Machinery Works (3MW) as nominated subcontractor
for all the hydro-mechanical works and Machhapuchhre Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (MEPL) for civil
works of penstock and water conductor pipe alignment.
Resumed concrete works at diversion weir after monsoon season, Intake Undersluice
including embedment parts have been completed. The construction of weir has completed about
85% as of to date. As the river discharge is lowering day by day, soon an access will be made
crossing the river and civil works along with hydro-mechanical works of feeder pipe will be started.
The formworks preparation for the concrete intake bell mouth has been started.
• Desilting Basin
Both the bays of desilting basin structural concreting have been completed. The concrete works
at the Inlet transition from feeder pipe for both the bays of desilting basin are going on. In parallel,
the shear walls of head pond structure at the downstream of desilting basin is being raised. The
flushing pipe installation beneath the head pond and raft has been completed.
• Water Conductor Pipe & Penstock Pipe Alignment and Valve house
Track opening along Water Conductor & Penstock Pipes was completed and trench cutting for
laying of pipe is continuing along with installation of WCP. It has been planned to conduct the
construction works at the WCP alignment from three separate faces simultaneously and
contractor is mobilizing all the required resources accordingly.
At the penstock alignment, concreting of 5 anchor blocks out of 7 have completed. The excavation
works of trenches for laying and installation of Penstock Pipes are in progress. About 200 m
penstock pipe has been installed and buried. The construction of valve house which is situated
immediate after the tunnel outlet and beginning of the penstock pipe shall be started only after
completion of tunneling works.
• Power House
The machine foundation concreting works up to the machine floor level has already completed
for all the three units with first stage EM embedment parts. The deck wall, tail pool concreting
works in progress. Because of the flash flood in Marsyangdi river, occurred on 27th Bhadra 2075,
the powerhouse construction area was filled with sand and silt. Now the deposited debris has
been completely removed and started scaffolding works required for the concreting of shear
walls. A new batching plant of sufficient capacity has been installed. The first stage concreting of
thrust block of the branching penstock pipe for all three units is completed with the installation of
pipes.
• Tailrace
The tail pool concrete works for all three units have been completed. The excavation work for the
tailrace canal will continue soon once the river discharge will lower down.
The contractor Multi Infrastructure Development (MID) Company is continuing the tunneling
works from both inlet and outlet faces since May 2018. MID has deployed more required
equipment such as robotic shotcrete machine, use of drilling machine at inlet and planning to
deploy more at outlet face too for accelerating the tunneling process.
• Surge Shaft
The tree felling process has been completed at the surge tank area and it has been cleared. The
access to the top of the surge shaft is being studied and soon excavation will start for a pilot hole
from top. Excavation of the surge shaft shall be started just after monsoon in October 2018.

Fabrication of water conductor pipes almost completed. Installation of 570 m WCP pipe and 220m
penstock pipes has been completed and further continuing the installation works as per the
progress of civil works. The fabrication of trifurcation manifold has completed at the workshop in
Pokhara and will be delivered to the site soon. Metal parts along with gate/stoplog frames at
undersluice, Intake, desilting basin and draft tube at powerhouse has been completed. The
flushing pipes of desilting basin underneath the head pond has been already installed.
Grid connection agreement with Nepal Electricity Authority was concluded to evacuate the
generated power in proposed Udipur Hub by 1.2 km 132 kV single circuit Transmission Line.
Construction of Udipur Hub and transmission line along the Marsyangdi Corridor by NEA is
delayed and expected to be completed by 2019. Subsequently RCOD has been extended up to
31st August 2019.
