Break-out Plan # 7

Date: 02-11-18
Break-out Title/Topic: Presentation Skills [With Emma Wylie’s Group] Resources Time
Bridge-in:
- When I was a first-year student, I was incredibly nervous about the group
presentation in this class because I had very rarely spoken in front of large
crowds like the one in my class.
- However, I got better at public speaking by getting lots of practice doing
presentations over the last three years.
- Therefore, Emma and I thought that you might benefit from getting some
practice in before you have to present your research project at the end of
the term. None .5

be presenting an argument either in favor of or against a specific debate
topic. The other two groups will debate another topic.
- Within the groups of eight, one group of four will present an argument in
favor of their topic. The other four will argue against it.
- Everyone will have ten minutes to come up with their side of their assigned
argument.
- The two topics of debate are:
1. Do we rely too much on technology?
2. Should the legal voting age be lowered to sixteen?
- We will flip a coin to decide which topic will present first, along with the side
of each argument that will go first.
- After both groups for a specific topic have presented, the groups that did not
present will vote on which side presented most effectively and explain why
that group was more effective. Timer, List of
