I have been involved with our Port Authority for 15+ years. The Port owns a short-line rail road and 200 acres of
industrial property in the county. There are many pieces of the Port. I would be more than happy to share our
manual and lend as much insight as I can. I believe this would be easier in person vs. from a far. I would be
happy to drive your way or we meet somewhere in between and I will bring my binder and other information.

Hi Jeff,
I trust things are well with you. I see you are the Exec. Dir. of the Allen County Port Authority. Although Dayton-Montgomery
County has a Port that we can utilize, I’m interested in evaluating whether or not it might benefit Miami County to have our
own. Can you offer some insight?

We do not have anything planned locally. Actually, until I received your email, I had not heard about this week. We have a
Monday morning team meeting which includes our OhioMeansJobs Director and he had not mentioned this event. I
followed up with him and he indicated there had not been any coordination between his office and the state. Our
OhioMeansJobs office had reached out to several of their state contacts and nothing was provided in terms of direction.
From our activity, we are in the 52 In-Demand Jobs Weeks……..currently we have over 1,500 open positions in the region
and we have companies taking out full page ads in the news paper. Our OhioMeansJobs office is holding several job events
per week to try and fill open positions.
I like the states focus, however, they need to put all hands on deck to address this issue for communities outside the
Columbus area.
If you all do something, please let me know. I would be interested to see how/what other communities are doing.

Hope all is well in Miami County. The 16th has quickly gotten here. Are you still planning on visiting Lima/Allen County
tomorrow to tour our industrial inventory?
I realize all the variables involved with this topic and the current environment. This has been on our Lima News front page
several times over the last several weeks and don’t want to drag you into our problem. However, we (including the
Commissioners and Township Trustees) are moving towards a change. I’m making sure we do all our homework on the
front end and don’t jump into something too quickly we cannot execute. That said, I want to make sure this fits your
schedule as well. I would like to proceed with your data gathering on our end and look at potential next steps. If tomorrow
is not the day, then let us look into the near future.
