Lesson Plan for Grade: Kindergarten

Subject/Unit: Hop on Pop

Objective: Students will be able to recognize and produce simple rhymes.
**Context for Learning: (background on students in the class and rationale for the chosen unit, see
explanation )
This lesson plan is designed for the kindergarten class, age four to five. There is one special education
learner, one learner with IEPs, and seventeen general education learners with two teachers. The teachers take
turns to lead activities.
The special education learner has slow speech development and short attention. He is a friendly and talkative
child. However, sometimes people cannot understand what he says because he has a difficult time pronouncing
some letter sounds. The learner with IEPs has slow language development. He takes times to think about what
he wants to speak it out in words. He also has his own way of writing; every letter is separated for example “I
have a cap” he would right “I h a v e a c a t.”
There are four students that use other language than English at home: one speaks Indian and three speak
Spanish. However, these students do not have problem with using English language.
There are two computers and a Smartboard in the class room. Both computer have access to the internet.
