word patterns, and to build
automaticity while reading.
Outcomes (What)
Students will apply reading
strategies when decoding words
and improve their reading fluency.
Success Measures
The final capstone project is approved
by the capstone committee.
Instructional modules are used in the
first-grade class.
Stakeholder interviews
Students will be able to read the new
text independently during reading
time.
Students will score improve on the
Developmental Reading Assessment
(DRA).
Verification
Capstone project will be signed off
by the capstone committee.
Instructional modules will be
completed by Nov. 15
The capstone project is submitted in
iLearn by Dec. 14, 2018.
The teacher will informally observe
students reading their books.
During the DRA test, the teacher will
observe whether students are
applying the reading strategies.
Assumptions
Stakeholders (teacher, first-graders,
capstone committee) will see the
benefits of the instructional module
and respond positively.
MIST students complete the course
by the end of Fall 2018.
-Students will read more fluently
after they had sufficient practice
using the reading strategies.
-The teacher will use the
instructional modules in conjunction
with the Wonders reading program.
-Positive feedback from teachers and
students
-Training will expand to the other
first-grade classes.
