Objectives
• To transform sliver in to roving attenuating it with a draft between
5-18
• To insert little twist ( 30- 60 TPM) into the roving to make it strong
enough for 3winding on a bobbin
• To form a le package suitable for following process of spinning

Process configuration: Roving frame

Creel Drafting Twisting Winding

(feeding slivers from cans (attenuation) (imparting strength) (package building)

No. of cans : 60- 120 Flyer speed: 100- 1600 rpm

Sliver hank : 3.5 - 5.5.Ktex No. of flyer spindle : 60 -120

Roving hank : 200- 1200tex

Draft : 5 - 22 Bobbin weight : <3 Kg

Working principle
• Slivers from cans are drafted
by a 3over3 or 4over 4 drafting
unit
• The drafted fleece is twisted by
a twisting head known as
“flyer”
• The twisted roving is wound on
a bobbin following a preset
winding rule
• No. of spindle : 60-120

Creel
• Diameter of draw frame can: 60cm
• Spindle gauze ( distance between two spindles) =
35cm
• No. of spindles = 120
• Length required to accommodate 120 spindles =
35x120 = 42m
• By arranging spindles in two rows the machine length
for accommodating spindles can be brought down to
21m
• No. of cans in 21m /(60+5)= 32
• Hence, rows required for 120 cans = 4 rows
