Answer the following questions:

1. What elements or characteristics exists in architecture today that you can trace all the way back
to Prehistoric Architecture?
Answer: 5 constructions of Lintel-Post, Arch & Vault, Cobel, Trusses and Tension & Suspension.
Geek and Roman Architecture in column, and the ornaments, especially in nowadays Italy. Water
system of collecting water in Greek, and transport of water in Roman.
2. What is the primary influence of the ancient Egyptians in their architecture, and how did it affect
their building style and building types?
Answer: Climate and geographical religious and the limited with building materials.
Egypt have 2 seasons Spring & Summer. The climate is warm, storm and even rain are rare. No
need for windows, - resulting to unbroken massive walls protecting the interior from the fierce
heat of the sun. Egypt civilization is always near the water system. Also, Egyptian believe in after
life, the pyramid was built for the preservation of the bodies. Religion is the dominant element in
their structures.
3. What is the primary characteristic of West Asiatic/Ancient Near East architecture? Discuss what
makes them different from the Egyptians.
Answer: MASSIVENESS, MONUMENTALITY, AND GRANDEUR
4. How would you define Greek Architecture?
Answer: Logic and order are at the heart of Greek architecture. The Hellenes planned their
temples according to a coded scheme of parts, based first on function, then on a reasoned system
of sculptural decoration. Mathematics determined the symmetry, the harmony, the eye's
pleasure.
5. How would you define Roman Architecture?
Answer: Roman architecture is basically the improved design of Greek architecture. They are
more decorative than Greek and mostly their structures are utilitarian(function).
Situational Analysis: Read the following situations and answer the succeeding questions.

1. You have a client who asked you design a home for them. They come from a very influential family
who runs several businesses, one of which is a local fast food restaurant that can compete with
the likes of Jollibee and Mang Inasal. In fact, their family-owned fast-food chain outperforms the
bigger fast food names in terms of daily sales and foot traffic. The family is never shy about their
restaurant and boasts about their achievements whenever possible. Currently they have a
presence in 80% of the Philippines’ provinces and are planning to expand further into Southeast
Asia, making them a direct competitor to the Jollibee brand. If you were to choose from one the
styles that were discussed in your HOA1 class, which style would you recommend to the client
and why would you choose that style?
Answer: Classical style, A cozy and elegant house will best describe and reflect their personality
and state as a well know prominent family in the field of food franchise.

2. You have a client who is a prominent and well-established lawyer. Because of the nature of his
profession, his life is constantly in danger especially against the people he will be opposing in
court. To make matters even more dangerous, he himself has a very destructive nature as well:
the type who will never back away from a fight, who keeps guns in his cars so he can shoot back
whenever he is fired upon and retaliate when threatened. His wife fears for his life, and so she
commissions you to design and build a house for their family. If you were to choose from one the
styles that were discussed in your HOA1 class, which style would you recommend to the client
and why would you choose that style?
Answer: Classical Style, this style would fill up the needs of the client especially in terms of security
and when it comes to its aesthetics, this style could also be the best choice because it reflects the
characteristics of the client.

3. You are designing a rest house for a retiring couple with several millions of pesos in retirement
funds. They would like to develop a retirement home on 5 hectares of private property that they
own overlooking a beach. They want their home to be as relaxing and as open as possible. They
are not concerned with material things such as cars and latest gadgets and television sets, so most
of their land will be devoted to just their home and gardens and probably pools. If you were to
choose from one the styles that were discussed in your HOA1 class, which style would you
recommend to the client and why would you choose that style?
Answer: Old but Gold, classical style would still be the best for a rest house, simply because classic
styles are silent and elegant and it would be a calming abode for both of them.
