The company was founded in 1965 by engineers who imported pre-

stressed concrete technology to Iran. The first two decades of Hexa

activities had mostly been including design and supervision of distinctive
and long-span bridges in Iran, where the firm was known to provide best
services in bridge engineering specialty covering most of bridge types
and construction methods throughout the country. In this regard, variety
of bridges over the river Karun in Khoozestan province as well as other
iconic bridges in the country, indicate professional expertise of Hexa in
bridge engineering specialty.
Hexa has started its participation in national railway projects since 1982
by the contract of Bafgh – Bandar Abbas project “The first railway project
which was built by Iranians with no technical assistance of international
expertise”. Since then, varieties of road and railway project were
practiced towards development of the country particularly after the war
in 80’s. In this regard, reconstruction and rehabilitation of structures
especially bridges is included the firm’s resume.
The cooperation of Hexa with Tehran Urban and Suburban Co. goes back
to 1986 when through the contract of three underground stations of
Tehran subway metro, Hexa has been involved in design of underground
structures, tunnelling and urban railways. Afterward and since 2000,
Hexa Co. has been extensively involved in urban railway projects of
Mashhad, Tabriz, Shiraz, Isfahan, Karaj, Ahwaz, Qom, Rasht and
Kermanshah respectively, providing investigation, design, supervision
and management services.
Depending on client’s requirements and contracts, Hexa provides wide range of consultancy and engineering services as follows:
• Initial consultations
• Feasibility studies
• Conceptual and basic design
• Detailed design
• Design check services
• General and site supervision including material quality control
• Providing MC “ Managing Contractor” services
Besides and through the contract of some EPC projects, Hexa granted to receive the certificate of construction in 2005. In some particular
projects which were mostly bridges and urban intersections, Hexa cooperates in partnerships and shows up as a contractor executing some
parts of the projects in addition to its consultancy services.

Structural design particularly in terms of bridge engineering is well-established
in Hexa since early years of the company. Founded in mid 60’s, Hexa has been a
leading company in bridge engineering industry and has been designing and
supervising variety of bridge types and construction methods in four decades.
Apart from requirements of clients regarding bridge types and architectural
aspects, Hexa believes in distinctive bridge geometries and innovative
Structural and Bridge construction methods being in conjunction with simplicity of erections and
construction for the contractors.
The courage of designing slender-yet-confident elements and straight forward
installation and construction, distinguishes Hexa’s design department from its
competitors in Iran.
Either cast-in-situ pre-stressed concrete box girder bridges constructed by
balanced cantilever method or precast pre-stressed box girders, have been
frequently designed and successfully constructed under firm’s supervision
spanning 50m to 150m.
Moreover, the longest steel arch and cable-stayed bridges of the country have
been designed by Hexa Consulting Engineers spanning more than 260m in the
middle.
In addition, incremental launching practice in bridge construction has also
successfully designed and supervised by Hexa pushing large girders crossing
valleys and streams.
Significant numbers of ordinary and cost-effective reinforced, pre-stressed and
steel plate girder beam bridges either in urban interchanges or even multi-level
highways are included in firm’s resume.

Hexa has started its participation in national railway projects since 1982 by the contract of Bafgh – Bandar Abbas project “The first railway project which
was built by Iranians with no technical assistance of international expertise”. Towards development of Iran’s major transportation system, Hexa Consulting
Engineers has done its share and successfully finished major railway routes such as Tehran – Qom Express Railway and Mashhad – Sarakhs in 90’s.
Hexa has always tried to modify the routes of railway projects

Railways reducing distances, travel durations etc. In this regard, recently in

Kermanshah – Samangan railway project, Hexa has reduced the
route for about 30 km comparing to the initial route design of the
client. Bridges, tunnels, galleries and trenches are always included in
such major railway projects in which Hexa has always tried to
optimize designs and construction procedures. In Miyaneh – Tabriz
railway project, there are 8 valley-crossing bridges included which
are currently under construction by state-of-the-art incremental
launching increasing construction schedules as well as great deal of
contribution to environment with the least disturbance to valleys .

Hexa has been involved in design and supervision of urban railways since 1986 through the contract of three underground stations of Tehran underground
metro. Afterwards, Hexa has extensively been involved in urban railway projects of Iran’s major cities such as; Mashhad, Tabriz, Shiraz, Esfahan and Karaj
providing consultancy services. In this regard, Hexa has come up with the best solutions in terms of economical design and practical construction methods for
shallow box tunnels and stations using both precast and cast-in-situ elements by Cut & Cover and Top-Down methods aiming to reduce civil work costs of
projects. Hexa has been encouraged and granted by clients of urban railways by reducing cost of projects for dozens of kilometers of shallow urban box
structures comparing to other methods such as mechanized and NATM methods.

Urban Railways
Urban railways have mostly been regarded and interpreted as underground and metro systems in Iran but quite recently the concept of monorail are being
introduced to urban transportation of the major cities. In this regard, Hexa has recently become responsible for design and supervision of Qom monorail
project as an alternative solution in urban transportation. In rather more complete contracts of urban railway projects these days; Hexa constantly shapes
consultancy consortiums in order to carry out basic and detailed design along with architectural, electrical and mechanical issues involved. Several
architectural and E&M international and local firms could be mentioned in list of Hexa MOUs and agreements.
Considering the increasing demand of underground passages particularly urban railways in large and populated cities, the horizon of Hexa Consulting
Engineers in investigation, design, supervision and management of large urban railway projects is significantly expanding.
