INTRODUCTION

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design,
construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works
such as residences, institutional buildings, roads, water storage, bridges, canals, dams, airports,
sewerage systems, pipelines, and railways. Any that related to civil engineering, it is also
related with calculation which is more specific to basic mathematics and advance mathematics.
Engineer must be able to solve the problem of calculations and be able to apply a problem into
a derivative as a solution. Any time there is a rate of change of something then the derivative
is an efficient way to characterize it.

Based on task has been given, a project needs to carry out about any sub-chapter from
the module of Mathematics III courses (BFC 24103) as for requirement to the project and it is
must related to any civil engineering. There are many chapters in Mathematics III course like
rate of change, double and triple integral, vector valued and others. For this project, all solution
to any problem occur need to solve by using any method that have in Civil Engineering
Mathematics III syllabus.

Rate of change for water tank in mosque Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia was
selected as topic for this project by our group. In this part, the rate of change taken are more
details where is to determine the rate of change of the volume, rate of temperature change, rate
of change of the height of water in the tank, rate of change of the water leveraging in time,
rate of change between peak hour and normal hour such as prayer time and rate of change of
ablution water waste.

Rate of Change

Rate is the ratio between two related quantities. If the denominator of the ratio
is expressed as a single unit of one of these quantities and if it is assumed that this
quantity can be changed systematically, then the numerator of the ratio expresses the
corresponding rate of change in the other (dependent) variable. For function of two
variables, the rate of change is given as follows:

𝑑𝑧 𝑑𝑧 𝑑𝑥 𝑑𝑧 𝑑𝑦
= +
𝑑𝑡 𝑑𝑧 𝑑𝑡 𝑑𝑦 𝑑𝑡
OBJECTIVES

1. To apply the application method of rate of change to real life.

2. To gain more knowledge and understanding the uses of calculation method in
Mathematics III.
