People who study computer science were once stereotyped as die-hard nerds who would rather
spend a Friday night writing code than grabbing a beer with friends. But in today's tech-driven
economy, skilled programmers are virtual rockstars. Choosing to major in nearly any computer
science major (computer science, information technology (IT), and computer information systems
(CIS) definitely sets you up for a high-paying job after you graduate.
Computer science majors as a group have among the highest median salaries of any major grouping.
When you look at the list of the most common jobs for Computer Science Majors and see titles like
Chief Information Officer, Vice President of Engineering and Agile Coach, you can probably figure out
why.
And studying computer science doesn't doom you to life as a code monkey. A high number of
Business Intelligence Directors majored in computer science, proving that you can have a variety of
job titles with a computer science degree.
Lots of computer science majors have gone on to have glamorous, high-profile careers. Comedian
Jimmy Fallon, billionaire entrepreneur Sergey Brin, astronaut Anousheh Ansari and Google executive
chairman Eric Schmidt all studied computer science.
