PERMIT TO WORK SYSTEM


A permit to work is a document that controls the undertaking of a task involving sufficient
hazards to require a written record of hazard identification, control measure verification,
authorization to start, acceptance, return and cancellation.

• Details of the task, and the location in which the work is to be undertaken
• The time and date the permit is valid from
• The hazards identified
• The control measures in place to remove or minimize those hazards
• The method and location of isolation and lock off
• Emergency contact details

Types of permit

Trial Pit Permit: A trial pit is an excavation of ground in order to study or sample the
composition and structure of the subsurface, usually dug during a site investigation, a soil
survey or a geological survey. Trial Pit Permit Validity: One month by weekly renewal.

Permit to Dig: A permit obtained for excavation work issue of permit depends on site
conditions after trial pit . Permit to Dig Validity: One month validity by weekly renewal

Hot Work Permit: A permit obtained for any job or activity, where the heat generated is of
sufficient magnitude and intensity to result in ignition of any flammable liquid, gas or any
other material. Hot Work Permit Validity: On weekly basis

Live Electrical Work Permit: A permit obtained for an electrical job on any electrical
equipment or system, lock out/tag out, except greasing of motors, which is covered by Live
Electrical work permit. Live Electrical Work Permit Validity: On weekly basis

Electrical Lockout and Tag out:

• If the work is to be carried out on electrically driven equipment or equipment having


electrically operated prime mover or on electrical circuit, the electrical breaker of such
equipment shall be locked-out as per the Safety & Health Procedures on "Electrical Lock-
Out/Tag Out" to ensure that the circuit is positively isolated, and the equipment is made

Confined Space Entry Permit: A permit obtained for entering into an area that has limited
openings for entry and exit that would make escape difficult in an emergency, has a lack of
ventilation, contains known hazards which is neither intended nor designed for continuous
human occupancy. Confined Space Entry Permit Validity: On weekly basis

Work at Height Permit: Safe System of Work apply wherever personnel are required to
work at heights of 2m or above on. Work at Height Permit: On weekly basis

Lifting Work Permit: All the lifting activities performed on the project by Contractor and
Subcontractors Approved Lifting Permit/Plan, MS and RA shall be prepared for lifting
activities. Lifting Work Permit Validity: One month validity by weekly renewal

Night Shift Work Permit: Night work is defined as activities performed after sunset and
before sunshine. Night Shift Work Permit Validity: On weekly basis
