1. Head of Marine Transportation Department’s Message


Ir. Tri Achmadi, Ph.D
Since became Head of Marine Transportation Department on 2004,
enthusiasm of students was increasing significantly. Finally, Marine
Transportation was established on March 24th 2011. Then, became department
officially on February 10th 2014.
The main mission of this department is to create fresh graduate who is
expert in maritime studies, especially in marine transportation. Shipping, Port,
and Maritime Logistic are multi-discipline knowledge that we learned. This
multi-discipline is taught with expert lecturers who have a high dedication,
experiences, and also expert in their area. This department aims for creating
qualified graduates to face the era of globalization.
Marine Transportation Department is the right choice for you who
interested in maritime studies. I, Head of Marine Transportation Department,
ready to be your partner to achieve your dream especially in maritime and
marine transportation studies.

2. Overview about Marine Transportation Department


Indonesian waters area has 2/3 of all country area, so marine
transportation sector has become very strategic and vital for country, it is not
only economy aspects, but also ideology, politic, social and culture, defense and
safety aspects.
Realizing that, Department of Naval Architecture established on 1960,
groaned marine transportation developmental by opened study program of
marine transportation since 1992. The study program released from Department
of Naval Architecture appropriates from the Minister of Education decision in
2011, the study program officially became Marine Transportation Department
which aim for:
1. Educate students to have business, management, and technology
insight;
2. Enrich the economic and financial approach in maritime industry,
effectively, and efficiently;
3. Develop the systematic and analytic thoughts through a socio-
economic approach in a decision making process.
Marine Transportation Department invites candidates students to comprehend
industry maritime problem exactly marine transportation sectors, and also
define alternative solutions.

Vision
Being a higher education institution in marine transport sector with national and
international networks that produce global high quality graduates.

Mission
• Establishing a higher education in the field of maritime transport which
efficient, relevant and responsible;
• Developing education and research network both nationally and
internationally;
• Adding number of research, innovation and other academic activities in
order to improve marine transportation science which relevant to the
industrial needs and development;
• Enhancing participation in community service in order to develop
maritime industry, sustainable community empowerment and
environmental.

• Able to understand the problems faced by maritime industry and define
the alternative solutions;
• Able to plan an optimum marine transportation system based on both
micro and macro scale of economic laws;
• Able to plan an optimum freight distribution with the use of multi-modal
transportation system based on the latest macro and micro logistic
principals;
• Able to create port plans and concepts that are able to support optimum
sea transportation systems;
• Able to think and work individually and teams;
• Able to behave academically, think scientifically, and have the will to learn
continuosly.
5.Why do we choose Marine Transportation Department?

Marine Transportation Department, Marine Technology Faculty – ITS,


Surabaya is the first and one only education program in Indonesia. Vision and
mision clearly match with vision and mision of faculty or institute. It is located in
Surabaya, which the center Indonesian maritime industry, it has some
relationship research with department or laboratorium maritime industry. So,
students have include in a society contribution. Students not only learn in class,
but also directly include and apply the knowledgement in a research.
A good relationship between Marine Transportation and maritime
industry begin started in a research, work practice, and in an apprentice. So the
candidate of alumnus will not be in difficult position when they in work practice
or apprentice and also looking for a job.
Beside having a work-relationship with Indonesian maritime, Marine
Transportation Department also has a work-relationship in research, education,
and practices with international institution.
