Correlation and Regression

The correlation coefficient is a measure of degree of co variability between two variables while
the regression establishes a functional relationship between dependent and independent
variables.

The difference between correlation and regression are,

Correlation Regression

Correlation is the relationship between two
more variable, which vary in sympathy with
the other in the same or the opposite direction
Both the variables X and Y are random
variable
It finds out the degree of relationship between
two variables and not the cause and effect of
the variable
It is used for testing and verifying the relation
between two variables.
The coefficient of correlation is a relative
measure.
There are many nonsense correlation between
two variables
It is not very useful for further mathematical
treatment.
If the coefficient of correlation is positive, then
the two variables are positively correlated and
vice versa
Regression means going back and it is a
mathematical measure showing the average
relationship between two variables.
Here x is a random variable and y is a fixed
variable.
It indicates the cause and effect relationship
It is used for the prediction of one variable.
Regression coefficient is an absolute measure.
In regression there is no such nonsense
regression.
It is widely used for further mathematical
treatment.
The regression coefficient explains that the
decrease in one variable is associated with the
increase in other variable.
Correlation
