- Public company belonging to the Western Costa del Sol Town Council
Association
- Helps to preserve water resources

MISSION, VALUES, VISION

Acosol is the reference in the sector investing in the continuous improvement of
infrastructures and technology, including participation in innovation and development
projects. They wish to make it possible to offer their services to neighbouring
counties a reality.
Acosol continues generating quality employment, own and through the hiring of
companies
of works and services, according to social, environmental and management criteria.
They also prioritize the creation of wealth in the region, according to the objectives of
sustainability and energy efficiency marked by the EU 20/20/20 directive, which
states
Acosol has committed to the preservation of environment through water sanitation
and preservation.

Acosol holds a number of values such as integrity, honesty, transparency regarding

relations with the local community of Western Costa de Sol and values such as
respect, commitment and passion to preserving the local environment through water
sanitation (see appendix 1).

SERVICE CHARTER

The service charter of ACOSOL has the following objectives:

1. Improve in water supply and sanitation services
2. Provide the customers with the information and means necessary for them to
collaborate in all the improvements to the service.
3. Properly serve the interests of the municipalities’ citizens

There are droughts almost every 5 to 6 years because of lack of rain and water in
preys. That’s why they created a desalination plant to help during the years of
drought. To be able to provide a service with such quality, they have customer
service offices open to the public in all municipalities supplied by ACOSOL. There are
several channels available for customer services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,
and with an emergency telephone number in case of any fault.

SERVICE RATES

3
During the years, water consumption has increased because of population increase
and water waste. A person consumes an average of 3.8 cubic meters of water per
month. That means, in a family of 4 people, the average monthly consumption should
be approximately 15. 4 cubic meters of water (Epm, X.X.)
Acosol’s Household rate table provides a visual of the rate of supply per each
municipality (see appendix 2).
The cost of supply would be calculated: adding the fixed price to the variable price.
The variable price is the according rate of a persons municipality and consumption
times the cubic meters a person uses every 3 months.
Throughout 3 months an average person from Marbella consumes 11. 4 cubic meters
of water.
TOTAL: Fixed price + Variable price
TOTAL: 12,44 + (0,46 x 11,4)= 17,684 €
Then the desalination figures, sanitation fees and extra fees of the cost of
infrastructure investments are added to the calculation. This payment is used solely
for this service. After this calculation, local tax rate on the total amount will also be
added to gain a total calculation of a service fee from Acosol.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST - PEST

We have chosen to compare Acosol (PC) to a British water supplying company by

the name of ¨Wessex Water¨ (PLC).
ACOSOL

● Political-
Founded in 1994, does not have a parent company. Operates on its own with the
help of the EU (European Union).
● Economical-
Acosol will invest 1. 5 million in collectors to prevent spills in the port of Estepona.
Acosol and Marbella City Council will guarantee water to people with few resources.
● Social-
¨Committed to saving and the responsible use of natural resources¨. ACOSOL is
spreading information/ raising awareness through social media and external
resources to implement the beneficial idea of saving- Water, recycling, waste
management, drought and a healthy lifestyle/ habits.
● Technological-
ACOSOL is constantly working on overall improvements and claim to have come up
with multiple idea. Being supported by the European Union (EU) they have been able
to manufacture/create a specific type of soil to capture emitted toxic greenhouse
gasses.
● Environmental -
ACOSOL supports Golf development and claim to have irrigated more golf courses
using reclaimed water more than any other public company in Europe. (50 cubic
hectometres, 700 golf holes, 44 courses in 2016/2017)
- They raise awareness about water saving in the community to hotels, schools,
tourists and town halls by doing many initiatives to help reduce water
consumption.
For example: The awareness campaign “we are water, Close the tap, give a break to
the water”. That was made by Acosol with the collaboration of a primary school class
from CEIP Daidín (Benahavis).

4
WESSEX WATER

● Political-
Since 2002 the company was owned by YTL POWER INTERNATIONAL of Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia
● Economical-
They present ways in which we can avoid pollution
Rated by Ofwat as one of the most efficient retailers in its PR14 determination
● Social-
Wessex Water achieved a score of 4.53 in Ofwat’s ‘Satisfaction by company’ survey
2012/13
The biomethane gas of UK's first bus powered entirely by human and food waste was
run by GENeco (part of the Wessex Water group of companies)
Repaired 4,300 of our customers leaking pipes for free
● Technological-

They created EnTrade, an online trading platform between farmers, regulators, etc.
● Environmental-
Invested £277m towards sustainability
29% of our electricity generated by our own renewable energy sources
10 new schemes initiated under our Conservation, Access and Report project
71% of our land is assessed and managed appropriately for biodiversity

As we can see Acosol is a fairly recent founded public company based here in the
Costa Del Sol. Claiming to attend to various matters as of political, economical ,
social and environmental factors. Also very ambitious aiming to expand as a whole
into other neighboring counties. Along with the constant task of being a sustainable
organization. We will see if this is the case when we arrive there.
