ansz014 SAP-Main SAP T have just started my joumney into the SAP world and as SAP is a vast topic I will be breaking down the areas that I want to cover, I will cover four basic areas that I think will help you understand SAP, later I will add other areas such Sales and Distribution, Material Management, etc. As I amstill laming SAP itis going to take a while to complete the various areas and I want to make sure that the content is correct and that I fully understand the subject both from the application and accounting/business side. My SAP web pages will not make you an expert in SAP, only time and practice can do this, however I have read a number of books and I do have a SAP solution at work and other SAP colleges that can help me on getting a better idea on how things work, itis also best to have a bit of accounting knowledge and in my FI/CO section I will do my best to add a paragraph or two to explain the accounting aspect in relation to the business. To start with I will cover the following areas that will help you understand SAP, system administration (also known as SAP Basis), FCO (Finance and Controlling) which are common modules used in SAP and ABAP Chasic/Object programming which is the programming language used in SAP, with these areas you should have a good understanding in SAP and it will help you decide what path you may which to progress as they are generally four different roles in a company, unless you are lucky enough to work for a small company where you can perform all the roles. * Basis Finance (configuration and setup) Finance (user's guide) Controlling ABAP Programming SAP Finance and Controlling are heavy linked to each other, and as a note controlling will slightly lag behind the finance documentation as I will need to discuss finance first but each section will have a number of crossovers. I have also split the Financials section info two, configuration and setup and a users guide This last note is how do you get to play around and lea SAP as the product costs tens of thousands of pounds, unfortunately it may require you to spend an amount of money and if you have a SAP solution at work then this will help as you can Jeam and compare with your SAP solution and the areas that you have learnt. [This is a small and expensive book, but it does get to the point and eases you in gently, its, ISAP ERP Financials Users Guide - Heinz Forsthuber and Jorg Siebert also the only book so far that covers actual posting in SAP, lots of books configure SAP but then leave out actual posting of documents, it does not cover the full SAP configuration. |configuring SAP ERP Financials and Controlling - Peter Jones and \John Burger [This is a big book, itis split into two Fl and Controlling, Ihave to admit that at times i did lget confused, as | a SAP newbie i did find it diffcult to follow, there are a number of Imistakes in the book which do not help when you are new to SAP. The book cover vasts lamounts of SAP configuration and is a good book to have, | actually preferered the book betow. [Customizing Financial Accounting in SAP - Narayanan Veeriah [This is another big book, covering Fl and a little Controlling, this covers most of the Fl |configuration and goes in to detail, its easy to read and follow, I would like to have a ldetaited view on the business example, for instance more detail on the accounts, etc, but lhave to say this is the best Fl book so far. [Configuring Controlling in SAP - Rogerio Faleiros and Alison Kreis, Ryan lOnly started reading this a little while ago, will come back to finish off my comments hispihwarcatacskeo util docsisanisapihkm [atthrough this is a old book (published 1998) it was a very good introduction book toansz014 introduction to ABAP/4 programming for SAP - Gareth Bruyn and Robert Lyfaretf SAP- Main |ctassic ABAP programming, simple examples and easy to follow. Althrough you wont become! lan advanced ABAP programmer you certain will be able to read ABAP code and understand |what it is doing. |ABAP Objects (ABAP Programming in AP Netweaver) - Horst Keller land Sascha Kruger JAnother heavy weight book, this complimented the above ABAP programming book, a tittle heavier to read and it merged both classic ABAP and ABAP objects from the start, so if you jjust want classic ABAP you have to page through the book a little. The book covers all programming aspects including packages, GUI programming, external Interfaces, testing, lete I would probably start learning classic ABAP programming using the above book first its lmuch easier to read and will start you off on the right footing. |ALE, EDI & IDOC Technologies for SAP (2nd Edition) - Arvind Nagpal land John Pitlak [Again this is a old book but very well written, its a very good book introducing the lkechnologies, easy to follow good examples and follows a good pace. You cannot get this book very easily and for good reason a very good book. ISAP Interface programming - Michael Wegelin and Micheal lEnglbrecht. [This is a advanced book and a basic knowledge of SAP and ABAP programming is assumed, the examples are simple enough to get a good understanding external programming in SAP, the book is a little expensive as its a short book, I do not think it is as good as the book labove. [Teach yourself SAP in 24 hours - George Anderson Lets be honest no book is going to teach you SAP in 24 hours, this book is more aimed at a lproject manager who wants to understand SAP a little, as a technical book it not worth lgetting and there are better books out there. [The Accounting Game [A lighter side introduction into accounting, it is actually a good book to begin with if you lhave no knowledge of accounting, it based on a lemonade stand and introduces laccounting terminology during you running a lemonade stand business. [Business Accounting - Frank Woods [This again is a good book to start learning accountancy, this book is easy to read and the |chapters are short and to the point which is what | tke, there are many examples to get lyou to fully understand the concept. It covers many accountancy topics and is UK based. |Accounting (Tools for Business decision making) hispihwarcatacskeo util docsisanisapihkm [This is a very large big book (1500 pages) and used in colleges and universities, | lke this book as it uses real companies accounts like taotie roll, microsoft, etc. Each chapter is the right length and easy to read, again there are plenty of examples to make you fully lunderstand the concept. || would recommend all the above 3 books in accounting, the reason as each book
