Surface BOP Checklist

Nipple-up BOP Equipment (Land)

 Ensure that there is a plan for nippling up the BOP equipment to keep as
much of it as possible off the critical path, i.e. pressure test as much as
possible on a test stump, prepare equipment and hoists for lifting, all
necessary equipment and tools, etc.

 Ensure that time breakdown of previous nipple-up operations are analyzed to

identify areas for improving nipple-up time.

 Ensure that the nipple-up operation is documented by time breakdown.

 Measure the height of each BOP component (Including the Bell Nipple) to
ensure that the stack will fit into the available space below the rotary beams;
this is to include the gap between flanges. Construct a stack-up drawing of
the BOP equipment.

 Perform a JSA and hold a Toolbox meeting with all relevant personnel in
preparation of the nippling-up and testing BOP equipment. The BOP testing
area and the area around the BOP stack should be properly secured to
insure that unauthorized personnel do not enter the area.

 Review the BOP equipment specifications to ensure that they comply with
the Drilling Contract and meet the well requirement as per the drilling
program.

 Ensure that there is sufficient quantity of proper size and specification ring
gaskets are on site. Spare ring gaskets should be available in the event of a
failure or damage during nipple up operations.

 Inspect the high pressure lines and connections to operate the BOP
equipment.

 Check annular surge bottles, accumulator pre-charge pressures. Inspect the

Accumulator to verify that all equipment is in proper working order.

 Ensure to use the plumb line for proper alignment of the BOP stack.
