Tsung Yeh Artist Village, Tainan (Taiwan)

I am writing this letter to recommend Riccardo Attanasio.

I am the Director of the IPSA (Institute on Palestine in South Africa, curator of

The Palestine Museum in Cape Town, and freelance curator.

I invited Riccardo to participate in two exhibitions: “The Fourtheen Stations

of the Cross”: a theological and political contemporary art exhibition that
was executed in August 2015. The second exhibition: Express your
Solidarity for Palestine: Executed in Cape Town, in the same year. Riccardo
was selected out of many artists to participate in the two exhibitions and a
previous tour in Palestine where Riccardo and 5 more South African artists
had the opportunity to learn about the theo-political situation in Palestine to
then create and deliver work for the exhibition in Cape Town.

Riccardo’ s work caught my eyes and in fact he was the only Italian artist
participating to the scheme which was supposed to be only for South
African Artists. I decided to have him in the project as I believe his work had
something unique that we definetelly wanted on board for the Palestine
tour and the Institute of Palestine in South Africa.

Riccardo Delivered several astonishing performance works which he later

toured internationally. He lately surprised me with new works delivered in
his residencies in Armenia and Iran this August, 2017 and I can renew my
admiration so that I can recommend Riccardo with confidence to join your
artist in residency program, ensuring you that you will end up loving his way
of working and the process he takes information in to deliver his work.
Noticing the efficacy immediacy of the synergy he creates when he visits a
new place, I could witness this in Palestine, South Africa and by seeing his
new works in other residencies abroad. Riccardo usually connects with the
local scene and history for each work created and connects very well with
locals and other artists.

Currently, I invited Riccardo to co-curate an exhibition with the theme of

“See-through”. This exhibition looks at the future of Palestinians and Israelis
in the eyes of artists who are neither Palestinian nor Israeli. Seven artists will
be invited: 2 videographers, 2 performer artists, 1 conceptual artists, and a
painter.

Riccardo seems to be a very good candidate for your programme. He is a

passionate and dedicated full-time professional artist with a very strong
body of work who is keen to explore new platforms. Riccardo thrives in
dialogue with others, although he works quite independently. I am aware of
his current need to evolve his practice and explore his questions with others
working in the field of contemporary practice
