Method

Research Design

Particularly, the study utilizes the single group design which a group of subjects are

administered a treatment then measured. In this design, there is only one group for

experimentations with different concentrations. This design does not have a control group since

the study will be focused on experimenting the turbid water. The experimentations will be tested

on the turbid water, the total suspended solids and the chemical oxygen demand on the water.

Materials

The materials that will be used to perform the study are oregano leaves, a stirring rod,

steel paddle, beaker, and a set of transparent water bottles filled with turbid water from a water

pump. The equipments on the other hand, will be composed of blender. The use of safety

precaution materials will be also observed in conducting the study.

Procedure

In this research study, Oregano (Origanum vulgare) leaves were collected from

households to filter the turbid water. The researchers washed the leaves and proceed to the next

step which is air drying, a method that relies on air to reduce the moisture content and quality

levels. The dried leaves were pulverized by the use of blender. Turning the dried oregano leaves

into powder, researchers prepared the solution, 10 grams of Oregano leaf powder is taken and

made up to 200 ml using distilled water. The turbid water is now intermixed with the solution

and was synthesized for its turbidity. The use of Jar Testing is needed in the experiment. Jar test
apparatus all coagulation experiments were carried out by using a conventional jar test apparatus.

A conventional jar test apparatus was used in the experiments to coagulate sample turbid water

using natural coagulant. It was carried out as a batch test, accommodating a series of four

beakers together with four sample steel paddles. The sample was then stirred homogenously.

Then, the samples ought to be measured for turbidity, for representing an initial concentration.

Coagulants of varying concentrations were added in the beakers. Before going to Jar Test the

turbid water was filled in the three jars with 200ml each. Add various dose of natural coagulant

(i.e) 4ml, 12ml, and 20 ml from the solution to different beakers then stirred for 10 minutes and

settled for 20 minutes. Coagulation and Flocculation are also essential part in the water

treatment industry, for these processes prove the low-risk consistency of treated water turbidities

by forming particles into large mass to be settle and to be filtered from solution. Measured the

amount of floc produce at the bottom.
