Sieve Analysis Measurement Procedure

Sieve Analysis Measurement for the pptb can be carried once sand detected on surface.
If sand detected on surface when doing BSW, take a first sample and put it at sample
bottle. Repeat the process of sampling for the second sampling for sieve analysis that
will be conducted.
Procedure for Sieve analysis to be carry out as per below:
1. Sample will be taken from the data header on upstream and downstream of the
Desander in the amount of 5 litre.
2. Demulsifier and acetone will be used to separate any emulsion, oil and water
from the sample taken.
3. The sample then need to be separate between liquid and wet sand using the
funnel where sand accumulated at the bottom of the funnel were it been taken for
drying process.
4. Using the moisture analysis balance to get the weight of dry sand.
5. Need to ensure during the drying process the heating process must be in normal
operation whereby it will prevent the sand to be over dry or burn out.
6. The weight of dry sand will be taken and calculate pptb of sand producer.

 PPTB calculation : Sand lbs/1000 bbl = W2 x (159 x 1000)

(V)(453.6)
~ W2 x 350.53
V
Where:
 W2 = Weight. in gm of final residue
 V = Volume in litres of crude sample
 1 lb = 453.6 gm
 1 American bbl. = 159 litres

7. This reading will be taken every 2hour or 4hour as ASTM standard.
