Heat and Mass Design Format

I. Introduction (Say something about the product, its significance/importance)

II. Review of Related Literature (Discuss the different existing manufacturing processes, significant data such
as heat capacity, feed and product composition, temperature, pressure and other parameters)
III. Design Methodology
A. Process Flow Diagram (Discuss each processes, e.g, what is happening in each process, why is it
important, important considerations (parameters that you need to design such as heating surface area,
temperature, and others) for each process)
B. Process Design (This contains the detailed discussion of the material and energy balances of each process
and other design parameters (heating surface area). Assumptions should also be discussed if there’s any
(no heat loss etc).
C. Summary Sheet (this includes a summary of the process flow with the corresponding flow rates,
temperature, and pressure of each stream. Heating surface areas should also appear in the diagram). For
this part it is more suitable to use e-draw software.
D. Concluding remarks (Summary of what you did)

Grading Criteria

A. Write-ups
Parameter Grade Description
Accuracy of the 50 The weight of grading is based on the percentage of correct calculations (e.g. if
design only 10% is correct, then, the grade is 0.1 x 50 = 5)
Essence of the 30 The weight of grading is dependent on how the paper is presented (e.g. clarity
Content of each sentence, relevant contents, connection between paragraphs and
proper annotations). Deductions will be made on plagiarized context. Use the
API standard when citing literature or references.
Grammar and 20 The weight of grading is dependent on the percentage of sentences with
Presentation correct grammar.

The weight of grading is also based on the consistency of format (such as but
not limited to font style and size, justified format etc). Correct labeling and
clarity of equations, figures and tables are also included as the basis of
grading.

B. Oral Presentation
Parameter Grade Description
Mastery 50 This is based on how knowledgeable the presenter is during the presentation. The
weight of grade is based on the percentage of correct answers as well as on the
capability of the presenter to explain the content of the presentation without using
any notes.
Delivery 30 This is based on how confident and fluent the presenter is during the presentation.
Presentation 20 This is dependent on how the content is presented (e.g. briefness and clarity of the
powerpoint presentation, gestures of the presenter)
