Dissertation Proposal

The proposal should include the following:


• The proposed title or question of your research project
• A brief outline (approx. 500 words) of the areas that you intend to cover in the research
project. This should be referenced to demonstrate initial background engagement with the
subject area.
• An indicative reading list of at least five secondary sources (articles, books etc.,). These
must be referenced as they would appear in the bibliography.
• An indication (where relevant) of the primary sources (magazines, television programmes,
films, CDs etc.) that you intend to use.

• The questions you hope to answer OR The new knowledge you hope to discover
• How your project relates to other work that has already been done on the topic.
• Your plans for answering these questions /discovering new knowledge.
• Particulars and details that show you are well prepared and likely to complete this project.

• S = Specific
• M = Measurable
• A = Achievable
• R = Results-focused
• T = Time-bound

• For proposal: The prevalence of anxiety disorders in Musical theatre …. improve if you can

• Refine your title:

• Anxiety disorders – define and explain them.


• Provide some statistics to show how significant this is, and why it is worthwhile
investigating
• Explain how you are going to look at this and how this affects musical theatre performers
• Discuss what you hope you will find out. ….(to raise awareness)

• Possible approaches for final project


1. Start with a literature review.
2. Case study approach – choose celebrities with experience of performance anxiety in
musical theatre (2 or 3)
