Title: “The quality of knowledge is best measured by how many people accept it.

Discuss this claim with reference to two areas of knowledge.

How do I understand the title? (Write your interpretation, what you think the title is
getting at)

In today’s world, there are myriad perspectives held by many people around the world. It is not
possible that everyone has to understand every perspective to a given situation. Therefore, the
number of people that accept knowledge could possibly be used as a way to measure the
quality of knowledge. In essence, the question is trying to quantify the quality of knowledge,
which is difficult to do. Different people may have different views of the nature of knowledge and
therefore its quality.

Key terms and concepts in the title, and the various perspectives from which they can be
interpreted)
The quality of knowledge is a core concept in this title. Conventionally, the quality of knowledge
is usually measured by its accuracy or its reliability, but these questions poses a different way to
measure this; something that is quantifiable. The question asks for two different AOKs, one of
which could be the natural sciences. There are many examples in the natural sciences that
could be used to examine the statement they give, both historically and in the world today.

What are the various assumptions (Positive and negative) about knowledge in the title?
The question assumes that the quality of knowledge can be quantifiable. There are other ways
to measure the quality of knowledge, but most of them do not quantify it effectively, which
makes this statement open to analysis from multiple perspectives.

What are the key knowledge aspects in this topic

The statement, by nature, is absolute. It mentions “best measured”, which forces the analysis to
explicitly take one side over the other.

What does it say about the process of producing/validating/ classifying/ accepting or

rejecting knowledge?

Outline the AOKS and WOKs that can be best discussed for your chosen PT?
The AOK that can best be discussed is natural science, for the reasons mentioned above.
Another AOK that could be examined is ethics. Ethics is a fluid topic for which there is no right
or wrong answer, opening it up to interpretation, which creates multiple perspectives to analyse.
There are also many historical and contemporary ethical dilemmas to use as real life examples.
The WOKs that can best be used are intuition and reason.

What is my position in relation to the PT? Justify.

In my opinion, you cannot quantify the quality of knowledge based on the number of people that
accept it. Humans are inquisitive beings and are bound to develop different perspectives and
views on a given topic. Therefore, measuring the quality of knowledge in this way is inaccurate.
The more subjective measures such as its reliability would be more applicable here.

To what extent do societal norms play a role in affecting the perception of knowledge?
To what extent do differing perspectives degrade the quality of knowledge?

outlined? What are first cut examples that come to the mind?
