Standard Method of Test for Softening Point of Bitumen (Ring-and-Ball Apparatus) | AASHTO Designation: T 53-06 ASTM Designation: D 36-95 (2000)*" AASHTO T 53-06 is identical to ASTM D 36-95 (2000)¢" except for the following provisions: 1. Replace all references to the ASTM standards listed in the following table with the Referenced Standards ASTM ‘AASHTO pe 74 Diao a0 2. Adit the following sentence to Section 5.7: “An ASTM Wide Range Softening Point Thermometer, having a range from 1 10 +175°C or 30 to 350°P and conforming o the requirements for Thermometer 113C or |13F as presesibed in Specification E 1." Replace the last sentence of Section 5.7.3 with the following, “An electronic ternperature-messuring device, such as a resiatance thermometer oF thermocouple, may be used if itexhibits the same temperature response as the mercury thermometer.” Replace Figure 1 with the figure on the next page: Replace Section 6.1.3 with the following: “6.1.3 Ethylene Glycol, witha boiling point between 193 and 204°C: (379 and 39°F)” Replace Section 9.1.3 with the following: “9.1.3 Ethyletic glycol for softening points between 30 and 130°C (86 and 230°F); use ‘Thermometer 113C or L13K.
