6. REQUIRED CONFIGURATION FOR E-MAIL NOTIFICATIONS

6.1. General points

Several types of messaging services have been used by companies, none of which is clearly
preponderant on the market: Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, … not to mention Windows, Linux, etc.
mixed character. Therefore, configuration operations for e-mail notification will consists on a generic
SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) configuration that may be upgraded to one or the other
situation.

As for XPR, the sending of notification e-mails is physically achieved by the database, i.e., by the
« OracleServiceEDIAG » service, executed on the database server (or the computer in case of a desktop
configuration).
6.2. Configuration of the SMTP server
There are two configurations:
• Use of the domain SMTP server
• Use of one’s own SMTP server (case of a stand-alone configuration)

Required configuration for e-mail notifications

page 60/78
Installation Guide - Rev.C
XPR-300 v3.0

6.2.1. Case #1: Using the domain SMTP server

Notifications can be addressed to:
• Either domain users
• Or off-domain users who work on the domain

In order to be able to send e-mails out of the domain (relaying notion), the Oracle service
« OracleServiceEDIAG » must absolutely be associated with a user account having relaying rights on the
SMTP server.

In the case of a client/server installation, the « ediag_admin » user account has already been declared
and used, and no additional operation is required. In the case of a desktop installation, this user account
must be created in the domain and associated with Oracle Services.

Note: The SMTP configuration can only be achieved by the network administrator or the domain
administrator.

Reminder: Associating the « ediag_admin » user account with Oracle services is achieved using the
Windows services management panel:

After completion of this operation, the computer station should be preferably restarted for the new
configuration to be taken into account. This is required only in the case of a client station for which this
installation step is not included in the standard installation procedure.

6.2.2. Case #2: Using alternate SMTP servers

In this case, no SMTP server is available on the network. An alternate SMTP server must then be
installed.
There are two solutions:
• Installing and using « ArGoSoft Mail Server »
• Using the SMTP Service available from Windows’ Internet Services

ArGoSoft Mail Server installation program is available in « Cd4XprTools » in the XPR package. This
software is provided in its “freeware” version for testing. For permanent use, we recommend that a
commercial version be purchased.
6.2.2.1. Installing & configuring « ArGoSoft Mail Server »
ArGoSoft Mail Server allows sending out and relaying e-mails from the XPR server station to any
addressee having a valid e-mail address. This solution is to be used only if no SMTP server is available in
your company.

ArGoSoft Mail Server must be installed from directory « Cd4XprTools\Tools\ArGoSoftMailServer »,

located in CD#4 of the XPR-300 package. Default installation can be performed; additional operations are
described below.

2 options need to be customised:

• DNS Server: present the IP address of the Domain Name System (DNS) server of the Internet
Service Provider. This parameter is required to send messages outside the local network. The
simplest solution to find the IP address of the DNS server active for your Internet connection consists
in using command ipconfig /all.
• Allow Relay: This option must be checked to allow sending messages outside the local network.

Once all these options are properly configured, the SMTP is ready and can be started:

Operating test:

From a SQL*Plus session, execute function SendMail() according to the following operating mode:

Enter the following SQL command:

Connect ediag/ediag@ediag

select ediag.SendMail('localhost', 25, null, 'pascal.thissier@tele2.fr', 'test', 'super test')

From now on, the SMTP server can be used.

6.3. Declaring the SMTP server on the XPR preferences

Once the SMTP has been properly configured, it must be declared in XPR in order to be actually used for
notification operations.

The following variables must be customised according to your configuration:

• « SMTP server: address » = « localhost » by default – change if required; in case of an
installation in a domain with an SMTP server, this variable must contain the name of the SMTP
server.
• « SMTP server: port » = « 25 » by default – change if required.

7. REQUIRED CONFIGURATION FOR SMS NOTIFICATIONS

WARNING:
• The service that is currently used to send SMS is limited to the French territory.
• Extension to other territories will be implemented in a future version.

7.1. Principle
SMS notification requires having a SMS service provider acting as the gateway between our application
and the mobile phone network. Once this gateway has been configured, XPR will use all the SMS
available from the provider that will deliver the messages to their addressees.

For technical reasons, we are currently using the services provided by http://www.lesms.com, which are
unfortunately limited to the French territory.

Note: The future versions of XPR will integrate a Web Services solution allowing communication with
most networks around the world.

7.2. Managing the SMS account

7.2.1. How to credit the SMS account?

From the welcome page at http://www.lesms.com, one can create a free account. To do so, click on “Free
registration” and follow the instructions.

Once the procedure is completed, you will receive the following information by e-mail:
• E-mail address
• Password

Your user account can be used to credit your SMS account using various methods of payment.

Each time an XPR notification SMS is sent out, your account is charged with 1 SMS. When there is no
credit left on your account, no SMS notification can be issued.

Notes:
Î Creating and crediting this account is at the operator’s expenses.
Î The SMS account must always be credited.

7.2.2. How to declare the SMS account in XPR?

Once the SMS account has been created and credited, it must be declared in XPR. To do so, edit the
preferences and change the following variables in the “Server Application” section:
• « SMS: account » = e-mail address
• « SMS: password » = password

Validate and quit the Preferences window. XPR can now issue SMS for its notifications.

8. REQUIRED CONFIGURATION FOR “OPC” FUNCTIONNALITIES

8.1. Access rights to servers’ DCOM components

In order to XPR to connect to an OPC server hosted on a local network server, several precautions need
to be taken regarding server access security.

Also, OPC publishing of XPR parameters requires some configurations relative to the security of the
server station hosting the OPC server, so that it can be used by anyone on the local network.

This paragraph deals with the description of all configuration operations required for these two operating
modes.
8.1.1. Firewall configuration
If there is a firewall on the server hosting the OPC server, then the following exceptions must be declared
in the firewall:
• Port TCP 135 must be open – reception port for RPC requests
• Program “OPcEnum.exe” located in windows\system32 must be allowed to open ports
o must absolutely be done on the server hosting “01dB.EDiagOPCServer DA Server” if this
server does not already host operating servers.
• Program “DanSrv.exe”, located in OneproD\XPR\opcsrv, must be allowed to open ports.
8.1.2. DCOM configuration
Start the “DcomCnfg” tool from “Start / Run”:

Check the following points:

• If the station hosting XPR’s OPC server, and if no other OPC server is hosted and operated from
this station, then the following DCOM components must be enabled on this station:

Required configuration for “OPC” functionnalities

page 71/78
Installation Guide - Rev.C
XPR-300 v3.0

• Each DCOM component representing an OPC server that may be used by XPR must be
allocated security properties allowing its remote use, i.e.:
o Authorisation to execute and activate
o Access authorisation
o Configuration authorisation
• To do so, go to “DCOM configuration”, then edit the “Properties” of each OPC server:

Required configuration for “OPC” functionnalities

page 72/78
Installation Guide - Rev.C
XPR-300 v3.0

Depending on the network configuration and on the customer’s security, these rights can be assigned
either to “Everyone”, or to “Authenticated users”, or to specific users or groups.

By default, we recommend that the “ediag_admin” user, initially declared in an “ediag” security group, be
referenced:

page 73/78
Installation Guide - Rev.C
XPR-300 v3.0

Then specify the authorisations for this new user:

In the absolute, this configuration procedure should be the responsibility of the site administrator and not
of 01dB-Metravib.

In Windows XP SP2 or Windows 2003 Server, DCOM limits must be configured to allow users to start
and log onto the server.

Notes of the previous paragraph still apply: the site administrator shall be in charge of defining the policy.

Refer to Document « Using OPC via DCOM with XP SP2 » for more detailed information.

8.2. OPC Server – ODBC configuration

Connecting the OPC Server to the XPR database is achieved through a system data source called
”ediag” and using the ODBC driver “Oracle ODBC Driver” (Oracle 8.1.7).

This data source is automatically installed during XPR installation. It can be consulted from the
Administration tools:

The data source can be tested from the “Oracle ODBC Test” program located in:

Once the application is started, click on “Connect”, and then select the “ediag” machine data source:

9. INSTALLATION OF “INTERNET INFORMATION SERVICES” (IIS)

IIS hosts the Web Service functions of XCOM Driver. Depending on the operating system, this
component will be either already installed (case of “server”-type operating systems) or will require an
additional installation in Windows (case of workstations).

IIS installation is initiated from « Control panel » « Add / Remove programs » / « Add or Remove
Windows Components :

The list of Windows components is displayed.

Select the « Internet Service (IIS) » component and click on « Details » to view the list of sub-components
and select « FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions ».
