You may want to think twice about heading down to Pykes Creek on Australia Day, as the
E. coli-affected reservoir will remain closed until further notice.
Southern Rural Water told the Moorabool News in a statement that Pykes Creek Reservoir
will remain temporarily closed for recreational water activities until further notice, due to
elevated levels of E. coli still present in samples taken last week.
A spokesperson from South Rural Water was unable to confirm if the reservoir would be
open in time for Australia Day. “Gordon residents pull media stunt to get attention” (MN 8 Jan)

Facebook feedback Wow that is a very biased and heavy handed article. I suspect whom ever wrote it really
dislikes Gordon residents or has an interest in council. I for one looked at the original plans
and was a bit put out about the number of trees stated to be removed. Insinuating that
Gordon residents had somehow pulled this idea out of thin air to gain media attention is
disingenuous. I always thought it was the media’s job to present an unbiased and factual
account of issues.
- Tracey Quinn
I don’t know how residents misinterpreted the big red crosses labelled ‘existing trees to be
removed’ as being the removal of trees. Crazy!
- Matt Swards
The issue here is the lack of community consultation / awareness. I don’t know who is the
PR person for the council but it is apparent that they need to do more to make the community
aware of what the council is doing.

The current works have been in train for some time due to safety and drainage issues at the
intersection; the first consultation was held 21st Nov 2017 and the 23rd November 2017; the
second session was held 26th March and 28th March 2018; the intersection upgrade was then
put out on the “Have your Say” section of the MSC Website and advertised in the paper for
a number of weeks. There was a follow up meeting held 9th April to show the results of the
feedback from the physical sessions and the online feedback. Council held a Rural planning

Reunited 35-years on
Darley Under 17 Premiers 1983. (Below) at their 35 year reunion.

By Robert Clarke Cotchin. Driver: Greg Sugars. Photo: Stuart McCormick HRV.
In 1983, the Darley Under 17 football team won the Central Highlands League Grand Final.
Coached by Tommy Edwards, they went through the entire season undefeated winning
most games by six goals. When it came to playing in the grand final, Tommy’s message was
simple.
“Just go out and play footy the only way we know how.”
But things didn’t exactly go to plan; they were losing by nine points with ten minutes to go
in the final quarter, and the pressure was on.
The boys ended up kicking five goals in eight minutes to win the game.
Following the win, most of the team never played football together again. Some of them
hadn’t seen each other for over three decades, so it was time to organise a reunion.
The night was organised by Sheldon Kirwan, who took on the huge job of contacting
everyone and opened his house to hold the reunion, where a great night took place.
A few team mates made the huge effort of traveling from interstate and out of the entire team
only three couldn’t make it due to other commitments. The night and day after consisted of
reliving the grand final, telling stories about funny moments that happened throughout the
season.
At the end of the night Tommy said that when he took on the coaching job, he never thought
in his wildest dreams he would be sitting around having a beer with the team 35 years later.
As the reunion drew to a close, everyone agreed that 35 years was too long, and they won’t
be waiting that long until their next one.
