Matthew Crowley – London Assembly List Candidate

I have been a Green Party member for nearly 4 years, and in that time I have involved myself
in as many aspects of the Green Party as I have been able to. Most recently, I was the Press
Officer and Campaigns officer for Barking, Dagenham & Havering Green Party, where I
successfully lobbied Barking & Dagenham Council to publish Fire Safety Risk Assessments of
their residential tower blocks in the wake of the Grenfell Fire.

At the age of 22, I am standing for the Assembly as London needs to hear
the voices of young people for the sake of the city’s future. There must be a
young voice on the London Assembly!

On Housing:
A house should not be just another asset to invest in, but something to provide security and shelter
to the people of London. I will fight to ensure that the term ‘affordable’ is officially recognised as
65% of market rate in London and push for greater transparency of the planning process.

Social housing estates need to be refurbished, not regenerated beyond recognition, and Mayor’s
London Plan needs to reflect this.

On Crime:
London must take a public health approach to crime, early intervention and prevention methods
must be implemented, such as reinvigorating youth centres across the capital, increasing support
for substance abusers and re thinking attitudes towards mental health and crime.

On Transport:
London is held as one of the biggest and best cities in the world, but it remains inaccessible to too
many Londoners. I would push for an investigation into how stations across London can increase
their accessibility from street to platform and not isolate wheelchair users.

Transport is a major area where we can reduce air pollution, with non-polluting public transport
such as Electric and Hydrogen Fuel Cell transport. I want to see the mayor of London seriously
take the lead on this issue, as extra congestion charges simply won’t make enough of a difference.

On The Economy:
Support and protect small businesses and high streets across London as the backbone of our regional
economy. In addition to pushing the Mayor on the position of the night time economy, ensuring that
night workers are paid fair wages and London has extended night time travel provision.
