ASSIGNMENT PROBLEMS - PROJECTION OF LINES

1. A line AB, 60 mm long has its end A in the HP and 20 mm in front of VP. If the line is 45 o
inclined to HP and 30o inclined to VP, draw its projections.
2. An end A of a line AB is 50 mm above HP and 60mm in front of VP while the end B is 20 mm
above HP and 15mm in front of VP. If the end projectors are at a distance of 65mm, draw the top
and front views of the line and mark its traces
3. One end M of the line MN, 80 mm long is 10 mm below HP and 15 mm behind VP. The line is
inclined at 40o to HP and the top view makes 50o with VP. Draw projections, if the line is in the
third quadrant.
4. The projections of line CD have 45o inclination in top view and 40o inclination in the front view
with an elevation length of 70 mm. If the end C is 15mm below HP and D is 20 mm behind VP.
Draw its projections and locate the traces keeping the line in third quadrant.
5. An end P of line PQ is 15 mm above HP and 25 mm in front of VP while the end Q is 60mm
above HP and 50 mm in front of VP. If the end projectors are a distance of 65 mm, find the true
length and true inclination of the line to reference planes by the following methods (a) Line
rotation ( b) plane rotation method.
6. The top view of a line EF has points e and f, 12 mm and 60 mm below the xy line and the front
view has e’ and f’ 50mm and 15mm above xy line respectively. Determine the true length of the
line, its inclinations with HP and VP, and the traces HT and VT. Take the distance between the
end projectors as 70mm.
7. A line MN has end the M on HP and 50mm in front of VP, while the N is on VP and 40mm
above HP. If the inclination of the top view is 35o to the xy line, draw the projections, locate the
traces and find TL as well as TI of line with reference planes.
8. A point A is 90mm below HP and 20mm behind VP, another point B is 15 mm above HP and
60mm infront of VP. The distance between the end projectors is 90mm. Mark the traces and find
the TL and TI.
9. The end E of a line EF is 20 mm in front of VP and is above HP. The other end F is 40mm
behind VP and is below HP. The line is inclined at 35 0 to HP and its HT is 25mm behind VP. If
the distance between the end projectors is 80mm, (A) Draw the projections of line (B) Determine
TL and (C) Mark the VT of the line.
10. A line JK 140 mm long has its end J in the third quadrant and end K in the 1 st quadrant, while its
mid-point C is in VP and 25mm above HP. If the line is inclined at 40 0 to HP and 300 to VP draw
its projections.
11. Line AB, 100 mm long has its end A in the fourth quadrant and end B is in the second quadrant,
the mid-point M is in HP and 20mm in front of VP. If the line is inclined at 30 0 to HP and 450 to
VP. Draw its projections.
12. PQ is a line 80 mm long, resting in the first quadrant in such a way that the end P is 12 mm
above HP and 20 mm in front of VP. The line is inclined at 40o to HP and 50o to VP. Draw the
projections, locate the traces and find the shortest distance of the line from the reference line xy.
13. A line AB, inclined at 30o to the VP, has its ends 50mm and 20mm below the HP. The length of
its front view is 65 mm and its VT is 10mm below HP. Draw the projections of the line and
determine its true length and inclination with HP.
14. Line AB is in the third quadrant. The ends A and B are 20 mm and 60 mm behind VP
respectively. The distance between the end projectors is 75 mm. The line is inclined at 30 o HP
and its horizontal trace is 10 mm above xy line. Draw the projections of the line AB and
determine its true length and vertical trace.
15. The end P is 20 mm in front of VP and 30 mm above HP. The end Q is 30 mm behind VP and 10
mm below HP. The projectors of P and Q are 40 mm apart. Draw the projections of the line PQ
and find its true length and inclinations to the co-ordinate planes. Find also the traces of the line.
16. A line PQ 120 mm long, is inclined at 45o to the HP and 30o to the VP. Its end P is in the second
quadrant and end Q is in the fourth quadrant. A point R on PQ, 50 mm from P, is in both the
planes. Draw the projections of PQ.
17. A straight line AB has its end A, 10 mm in front of VP and nearer to it. The mid-point M of the
line is 40 mm in front of the VP and 30 mm above the HP. Its front and top views measure 120
mm and 100 mm respectively. Draw the projections of the line, mark the traces and find its true
length and true inclinations with the HP and VP.
18. One end of a pole 2 m long rests against a wall and the other end on top of a horizontal table
which is 1 m high. The pole makes 40o with the table top and 26o with the wall. Draw the
projections and find the height of the end which rests against the wall from the floor.
19. A line AB of length 70 mm is inclined at 30o to HP and 45o to VP. A point P on the line is at a
distance of 30 mm from B, and is 55 mm above HP and 60 mm in front of VP. Draw the
projections of the line and mark its traces.
20. The ends of a line AB are 50 mm and 20 mm above HP. The length of its elevation is 70 mm and
its VT is 10 mm above HP. The line is inclined at 40o to VP. Find its true length and true
inclination with HP. Also locate its traces.
21. The midpoint of a line AB measuring 80 mm is 50 mm above HP and 30 mm in front of VP. The
line is inclined at 45o to HP and 30o to VP. Draw the projections and find the length of plan and
elevation.
22. An 80 mm long line PQ has its end P on the HP and 15 mm in front of VP. The line is inclined at
30o to HP and its top view is inclined at 60o to the reference line. Draw the projections of line PQ
and determine true angle of inclination with the VP.
23. Find graphically the length of the largest rod that can be kept inside a hollow cuboid (rectangular
prism) of 60 mm x 40 mm x 30 mm size.
24. The front and top views of a straight line PQ measures 50 mm and 65 mm respectively. The
point P is on HP and 20 mm in front of VP. The front view of the line is inclined at 45 o to the
reference line. Determine the true length of PQ and its true inclinations with the reference planes.
Also locate its traces.
25. A line AB 70 mm long has one of its extremities 30 mm in front of VP and the other 70 mm
above HP. The line is inclined 45o to HP and 30o to VP. Draw its top and front view.
