Students will be able to identify and describe the different phases of meiosis.
Students will be able to work together.

Ohio Learning Standard:

Characteristics of life regulated by cellular processes - Photosynthesis, chemosynthesis, cellular
respiration - Cell division and differentiation.

Motivational Techniques:
Show them how this relates to themselves, the people they love. Everyone is made of cells. Use
phrase such as “your body is doing this right now!”.

Materials Needed:
Writing utensils, worksheets.

Procedure For the Lesson:

- Students enter classroom and on board are directions to sit and get pencil/pen out.

answer. Ask for an explanation. Do the same for number 2, 3, etc...
- Give correct answers.
- Handout out questions worksheet for homework. They can start in class if there is extra time

Academic Language:
All cell vocab, parts of the cell, types of cell divisions, phases of cell division, chromosome,
types of chromosomes and phases of chromosomes.

Assessment Methods:
Informal: Review of worksheet.
Formal: Questions worksheet to be handed in the next day.

Evaluation of Field Experience Student’s Performance:

The lesson went well, better than the midterm lesson! The students behavior was good, quiet,
and respectful. They listened to instruction well and worked together when they were allowed to.
I learned that even though the class has been reviewing the phases of meiosis for over a week

they struggled to identify the phases and explain them. It allowed me to see who needs extra
review and what helps the material to “stick”. Next time, I would like to know more where the
students are at in their knowledge, but it is tricky because early experience isn’t two days in a
row. I am excited for this in student teaching!
