ABSTRACT

Eyes or vision can not be replaced with anything, because of that ,it need good care. By

ignoring eyes and vision problems can lead to blindness or loss of eyes function. One of the

causes of blindness was a refractive disorder that has been ignored so far.

This research aimed to determine the description of refractive disorder patients in the

Ophtalmology Clinic of Dok II General Hospital Jayapura in 2008. The type of research

conducted was descriptive research based on secondary data obtained at Ophtalmology Clinic of

General Hospital Jaypura. This held from April to August of 2009. The variables used were age,

sex, education, occupation and type of refractive disorder.

Myopia based on age, the highest was 17-49 years old, the lowest was > 50 years old.

Based on sex, the highest was women. Based on education, the highest was Senior High School,

the lowest was Diploma. Based on occupation , the highest was civil servant, the lowest was

unemployment.

Hypermetropia based on age, the highest was > 50 years old, the lowest was 0-16 years

old. Based on sex, the highest was women. Based on education,the highest was SMA, the lowest

was Elementary School and Bachelor of Degree. Based on occupation, the highest was civil

servant, the lowest was unemployment.

Presbiopia based on age, the highest was 41-45 years old, the lowest was 56-60 years

old.based on sex, the highest was women. Based on education, the hghest was Senior High

School, the lowest was Elementay School. Based on occupation, the highest was civil servant,

the lowest was farmer, retired civil servant and retired army.
Astygmat based on age, the highest was 15-59 years old, the lowest was > 60 years old.

Based on sex, the highest was women. Based on education, the highest was Senior High School,

the lowest was Diploma. Based on occupation, the highest was private employees, the lowest

was farmer and unemployment.

The highest type of refractive disorder were myopia and presbiopia. Based on these things,

it can be concluded that the refractive disorder was the highest at the age of 17-59 years old,

women, Senior High School and civil servant. The highest type of refractive disorder were

myopia and presbiopia. The suggestion in this research was that the community should check

their eyes more regularly so they can find out about changes or decreased visual function. The

suggestion for hospital was it have to pay more attention to medical records, so as not to make

mistakes in data retrieval and the government to further improve health counseling efforts and

treatment of eyes diseases in the community.
