Foster Wheeler wins contract for

petrochemical refinery complex
in Vietnam

Swiss engineering and

construction entity Foster Wheeler
has secured a project
management and consultancy
services contract for the Nghi Son
Refinery and Petrochemical
(NSRP) complex in Vietnam.
The NSRP complex will include
an integrated refinery for
processing 200,000 barrels of
Kuwait Export crude oil a day and
a petrochemical complex with
associated infrastructure, utilities
and off-site facilities. It will also
have full conversion facilities with
an integrated aromatics complex
and facilities for polypropylene
production.
The complex will be built in the
Nghi Son economic zone of
Thanh Hoa Province and is
expected to start operations in 2017.
The contract value has been not disclosed, but the total investment for
the project is expected to be around $9bn.
Foster Wheeler will manage and administer the engineering,
procurement and construction contractors throughout the project until
performance testing.
Foster Wheeler president and chief operating officer Umberto della Sala
said that the company has completed the front-end engineering design
for the complex.
"We are delighted to be continuing our involvement with this strategic
project during the implementation phase," della Sala added.
"Our performances during the earlier stages of the project, our refining
expertise and our experience in executing major projects in Asia were
critical factors in our success in winning this significant award."
The Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical is a joint venture company
formed between the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Idemitsu Kosan and
Mitsui Chemicals of Japan and Kuwait Petroleum Europe.
