Extra Credit for Natomas Charter Students - Entering GRADES 6, 7 & 8 
 
Reverse summer math loss by participating in Natomas Charter School’s Summer Math Program.
Big picture: your child practices math while earning extra credit and parent hours!

We have various options for math practice. For all options, simply log your time on the recording
sheet provided. If you log in ten hours you will earn extra credit points in math for the first trimester.
Parents sign off on their child’s hours and complete the reflection at the bottom of the form to earn ​4​ parent
hours. Turn in the completed sheets to your child’s math teacher during the first week of school in August.

To help you and your child find a focus for the math practice, we have included a table of the math
standards covered at each grade level (6-8). To the right of each standard are suggested sites for concept
practice. If your student chooses to use Khan Academy, he/she will take an introductory assessment test.
The Khan site will then assign learning modules based on how well your student showed mastery on the
diagnostic assessment. Once your student has worked through a standard, choose another standard. If
your student has mastered a concept, he/she might choose to use the game sites for additional practice.

Math proficiency also includes being able to reason critically. We would like for all students to try the
critical thinking and problem solving links to challenge themselves and to improve their reasoning skills.

At NCS we feel that math games, logic games, and even card games promote mathematical
thinking. Please record those minutes playing games and enjoying Family Game Nights as well.
