Throughout the play, Shakespeare expresses his belief that no one can escape

fate through major events and character interactions.

One example of major events is in the prologue (Act 1, Line 9), it says “The
fearful passage of their death-mark'd love.” This whole story is a tragedy of them dying
because they love each other. Since the beginning, they were destined to fall in love
and die together. This was their fate, controlled by a higher power. Similarly, the
prologue also states “From ancient grudge break to new mutiny. The reason they die is
because each of their families are and have been rivals. Their families don't approve
and their love breaks out new war. Overall, it's hard for them to be together so they think
the only way is death.
Another reason for major events is in act 3 scene 2 when Juliet is in her room
thinking about Romeo, while he’s somewhere else, killing her cousin and getting
banished for it. She says “And Romeo leap to these arms untalked of and unseen.”
Juliet thinks she will see him again and is so excited but we know that she won't be able
to. Regardless, in the end of the story, Act 5 scene 3, the text states ”For never was a
story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” We know that their love caused
war and led to the death of five people, Tybalt, Mercutio, Paris, Romeo, and Juliet. The
prince is right, this is a great love tragedy, their deaths caused the old grudge to break.
Secondly, for Character interactions in Act 3 scene 2, it says “Romeo may not,
he is banished.” Friar Lawrence tells Romeo his punishment for killing Tybalt which is
banishment. Romeo start saying things like his banishment is worse than death
because he won't be able to see Juliet-“Banished! O Friar, the damned use that word in
hell.” Romeo's angry about his punishment but no one can escape their fate, he has to
leave Verona. Later on, Romeo sends Balthazar, his friend, to Verona to check on
Juliet. Romeo didn't get Friar Laurence’s letter and Balthazar came back with news of
Juliet's death, now he thinks it’s true. In Act 5 scene 2 Balthazar says “O, pardon me for
bringing these ill news.” Romeo responds with, “I will hence tonight.” Romeo is going to
see Juliet and says he will lay forever next to her. It was fate for Friar Laurence’s letter
to never reach him and never know the plan which led Romeo to his death. It was all
meant to happen.
In conclusion, through major events and character interactions, Shakespeare
showed the idea that no one can escape fate. Like how I mentioned some major events
such as the prologue, it showed how Romeo and Juliet were destined to fall in love and
die together and that it would cause a new war. Also, in character interactions how
Romeo and Balthazar talked about Juliet’s death but we knew she wasn’t actually dead.
In all these parts of the story, Shakespeare shows how everyone's fate is inevitable and
the things that happened to them, had happened for a reason. The reader learns that all
things happen for a reason, things as small as not getting a letter or bigger things like
not knowing your love isn’t dead but you were told they were. All these things led to
both of them dying and their love ending an ancient grudge. Them falling in love
happened so the war can end and their actions were all controlled by a higher power;
fate.
