Throughout the play of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, he expressed

his belief of conflicts have severe consequences in many ways. Here are 3 ways

William expressed his belief, one way is through character interactions, another is

character actions and last but not least is conflict.

To begin with most conflicts start with interactions these character interactions

can be social interactions at any time in the play. Here’s how this conflict started.

“...nothing but one of your nine lives, that I mean to make bold withal, and, as you shall

use me hereafter, dry-beat the rest of the eight. Will you luck your sword out of his

pilcher by the ears? Make haste, lest mine be about your ears ere it be out.” In this

interaction between two enemies (Tybalt and Mercutio) it appears that Mercutio wants

to have a sword fight with Tybalt, and the following quote is Tybalt’s reply. “I am for you

[draws].” This quote shows how Tybalt is up for the sword fight and doesn’t show any

hesitation for it.

Then after their interaction they began to have the sword fight until happened

next. “[Draws] Draw Benvolio, beat down their weapons. Gentlemen, for shame, forbear

this outrage. Tybalt, Mercutio, the Prince expressly hath forbid this bandying in Verona

streets. Hold, Tybalt! Good Mercutio! Tybalt under Romeo’s arm thrust Mercutio in and

flies.” Romeo being calm tried to stop them and he successfully did, but Tybalt took
advantage that Romeo was in between them and struck Mercutio and killed him. Romeo

now wants revenge for his best friend's death. The following will show what Romeo

does. “Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him here shalt with him hence.(Tybalt)

This shall determine that.(Romeo) They fight and Tybalt falls.” Romeo has now killed

Tybalt for revenge for killing his best friend.

Eventually this leads to Romeo facing consequences for what he has done. “A

gentler judgment from his lips: not body’s death but body’s banishment.” In this quote

Friar Lawrence is telling Romeo that he is receiving a light punishment because he only

killed Tybalt because he killed his best friend. The following quote will show how Juliet

has reacted to the current news. “O, she says nothing, sir, but weeps and weeps, and

now falls on her bed, and then starts up, and ‘Tybalt’ calls, and then on Romeo cries,

and then down falls again.” This quote shows that she (Juliet) has been upset for

Tybalt’s death and Romeo’s banishment.
