Community Phone: The Boston-based company told USA TODAY it is offering furloughed,
federal employees in Massachusetts “a full contract free year of unlimited everything” and “to all
furloughed in all states, a free $100 of credit for a no contract, no credit card required service on

BANKS/CREDIT UNIONS
Chase: Federal employees affected by the partial government shutdown can call a special line to
discuss their options, 1-888-356-0023. The bank also said it will "automatically waive or refund
overdraft and monthly service fees" until the shutdown ends.

Wells Fargo: Wells Fargo said it "is here to help customers who are experiencing hardship as a
result of the federal government shutdown." Customers should call 1-800-TO-WELLS, or the
number on their credit card, debit card or statement for assistance, or visit any Wells Fargo
branch. Mortgage, loan, and credit customers may qualify for forbearance or other payment
assistance programs based on their individual circumstances.

Congressional Federal Credit Union: Furloughed employees and those working without pay
can apply for the “Relief Line of Credit” with an interest-free rate over 60 days.

SoFi: is offering payment forbearance during the government shutdown. Customers may call
844-975-7634 for qualifying information.

FedChoice: The Federal Credit Union has several options listed in its Furlough Center at
www.fedchoice.org.

Navy Federal Credit Union: Impacted union members who have direct deposit of their
government pay may be eligible for interest-free loans. Government contractors may be eligible
if their direct deposit is received directly from the federal government and will be impacted by a
government shutdown.

U.S. Employees Credit Union: Impacted union members who have direct deposit of their
government pay may be eligible for interest-free loans. According to its website, the Government
Shutdown Loan is to be “repaid in 60 days or when the government processes back pay,
whichever is sooner.”

Interior Federal Credit Union is offering a “shutdown line of credit” of up to $15,000 without
interest for 30 days, waiving of credit card and loan payments, lowering of interest rates to 0%
on existing lines of credit, and waiving fees on withdrawals.

Freedom Mortgage has created a team dedicated to supporting those no longer receiving
paychecks due to the shutdown to help them avoid defaulting on a mortgage. Customers can
visit www.freedommortgage.com or call Freedom Mortgage at 855-690-5900.

Nationwide is providing grace periods, extending due dates, and waiving certain fees for several
of their product lines including Life Insurance and Retirement Plans. Customers should contact
Nationwide through their normal customer service lines for assistance.

Quicken Loans is waiving all late fees for clients who may miss a mortgage payment due to the
shutdown as well as providing a free 30-day rate lock extension for any clients currently in the

First Command Financial Services is offering its bank clients who are federal employees
interest-free payroll advances and other assistance.

Launch Federal Credit Union is issuing a zero-percent interest rate for loans of up to $3,000 to
federal government employees.

Meriwest Credit Union is offering a variety of hardship assistance programs for customers.

Democracy Federal Credit Union is offering a short-term emergency loan with 0% interest.

Ally Financial: Customers impacted by the shutdown should contact the bank directly to discuss
their individual options. A message on its site directs customers to 1-877-247-2559.

Capital One Bank: Assistance provided to our impacted customers could include temporarily
waiving or refunding certain credit card fees, extending payment due dates on auto loans, and
waiving or refunding overdraft, insufficient funds, and service fees on deposit accounts.”
Ford Motor Credit: Encourages customers who have had a loss of income to call for payment

General Motors Financial: If you have been impacted by the federal government shutdown and

USAA Federal Savings Bank: Offering a one-time, low interest loan to active Coast Guard and
Public Health Service Corps personnel whose pay is disrupted,” The lender is also providing all
eligible members affected by the shutdown with a 60-day payment deferral on consumer loans,
90-day payment deferral on credit cards, and special payment arrangements on auto and home

Discover: Impacted federal workers who are Discover card members or have a loan with
Discover Bank may be eligible for assistance such as skipping a payment and having late fees
and interest charges reversed if they miss a payment because of the shutdown. To request

Citibank: offers a range of assistance to customers experiencing financial hardship. Customers


can call 800-950-5114 for credit card assistance and 800-283-7918 for mortgage assistance.
Amex: Assisting customers affected by the shutdown by waiving late fees, return check fees, and
future interest charges. Customers can call to discuss their options.

UNEMPLOYMENT
Unemployment benefits: Federal workers impacted by the government shutdown may be
eligible for unemployment benefits, according to the Office of Personnel Management. Obtain

Local United Ways are providing a host of services in areas with federal workers, including
financial services and counseling, and where available, Emergency Housing and Assistance
Funds for food, rent and other assistance.
