DING. DING. Ding. Can e-mail
ring off the hook? I think so. For
months my e-mail alert bell has
been ringing nonstop and my
inbox threatened to shut down a
couple of times out of exhaustion.
Why? It’s my own fault. In the
April edition of this col-
umn I wrote about model-
ing workbenches and
asked you to send me some FROM
snapshots of where you
build. You responded in a
from around the world.
We always have plenty of model
photos, but it’s not very often that
‘we get to see where all those
pieces go together. Examples ran
the gamut from old TV trays to
custom-built, fantastically outfit-
ted work rooms. We squeezed as
many workshop photos as we
could into this issue's Scale Talk,

Speaking of our Web site, you
may have noticed we're starting to
include video clips. So far we've

that clip of Aaron falling off the

forward to making the most of
this new way to share top-quality
scale-modeling information and
techniques with you. Stay tuned.

ticularly happy to share Rick
Lawler’s cover story on painting
realistic finishes. Monochromatic
subjects are always tricky. Painting
everything one unbroken color can
make a finely detailed model look
like a diecast toy, while varying
the highlights and shadows too
much can take things into carica~
ture territory. Rick shows how to
find just the right balance, and I'm
sure you'll find his step-by-step
advice helpful, no matter what you
build.
