L16-5169 Load Management Haider Sultan

General Introduction:
As increasing number of consumers and emerging of renewable energies to the smart grid a mismatch
occurred between supply and demand which became a challenge for the researchers. Safarzadeh L,
suggested in [1] that Demand response is one of the solutions in balancing the supply and demand.
Load management (LM) matches electricity supplies with the demand and improve the efficiency of
the smart grid. The main purpose of load management is to reduce the peak demand. There is a
difference between load management and energy conservation. LM is proposed for reducing or shifting
demand from peak hours to off-peak hours, while energy conservation is used to reduced usage over
the entire 24 hours load period.
Automated Demand Response:
ADR has accumulated much interest because of advanced communication and control networks also
indulged in the connectivity of automation systems in premises with utility energy management
systems [2]. According to [1] demand response automation can improve the stability of the system,
comfort of the customers, cost reduction of the customers and utilities.
Scope of Project: Load management with the perspective of utilities.
There are three type of utilities involve in the smart grid context. First one is consumer second is third
party (shareholders) who is contributing indirectly for the integration and atomization of a smart grid,
last one and the most important are utility supply companies.
My contribution in load management is to design an efficient smart load management architecture that
fulfil the demands of the consumer and provide a comfort too when supplied power is insufficient.
