BASIC METHOD FOR FLUSHING OF THE RIPAS WOMEN

& CHILDRENS BLOCK CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS MAIN

PIPE WORK.
Please follow these steps to the letter to achieve the best possible cleaning of the chilled
water system possible with the limited provisions for flushing & chemically cleaning.

1. Ensure the primary loop and secondary riser with the B2 AHU loop are filled with water and
there is a static pressure of 2bar at the roof.
2. Ensure there is a clean water insertion point at the roof with constant supply available from the
pressurized potable/cold water system.
3. Ensure all valves for the primary and secondary pumps are open.
4. Ensure all chiller flow valves are open.
5. Ensure the B2 AHU loop has had the strainer cage removed, and the 2-port valve replaced with a
temporary piece of line sized pipe.
6. Open the B2 drain point to a level where the water is running out at a flow rate that will not be
more than the potable/cold water can replace it (for cleaning of the systems water).
7. Turn on all primary pumps 1 at a time until all are running.
8. Turn on secondary pump 1 then secondary pump 3 so both are running (PCHWP 2 cannot run so
only 2 pumps will be available).
9. Leave the system running in this manner for around 30 minutes.
10. Stop primary pump 1, isolate the suction and discharge valves, remove and clean strainer.
11. When step 9 is complete replace the strainer, open the discharge valve slowly allowing the
pump pipe work to fill while letting the air back into the system in small amounts as not to allow
air traps in other parts of the systems.
12. Continue steps 9 & 10 for all primary and secondary pumps (ensuring all other pumps are
running when the strainer cleaning of other pumps is taking place).
13. When all primary and secondary pump strainers have been cleaned for the first time allow all
pumps to run for 30 minutes then repeat steps 9 & 10 for all pumps again.
14. Repeat steps 9 & 10 continuously until no more debris is found in any of the strainers.
15. When there is no more debris found the strainers will not need to be cleaned again until the
floor by floor flushing takes place after the balancing valves have been installed.
16. Continue with the supplying of potable/cold water to the system and draining at the B2 drain
point until the water exiting the system is visibly clear (keep only 1 primary and 1 secondary
pump running during this period, changing which secondary pump runs every 4 hours and
primary pumps run every 2 hours).

Another step by step method will be issued for floor by floor flushing will be issued when
necessary.
