Leaders Need
to Know About
Themselves
One of the keys to becoming a better
leader is developing self-awareness. For
most of us, it’s our blind spots that hold us back, not the things we already know we need to improve on.
To help you identify yours, we’re sharing the checklist we use to look for our own blind spots and those
of the leaders we coach.
Your answers to the 31 questions below will trigger one of two outcomes: either you’ll become more aware of
leaning too much on something, or you’ll become consciously aware of things that affect you negatively, draining
your ability to perform. Once completed, you’ll have a clear picture of which tasks, people, things – even places – to
develop further and which to discourage in your day-to-day leadership.
14. In what type of environment do you 23. Do you have monthly and/or annual
least effectively complete tiresome ‘creative / tiresome’ time rhythms you
work? should be aware of?
15. When is the best time of day for you to 24. What do you believe your core skill to be?
undertake creative work?
Now that you have this list, it’s time to act on it. Take the two questions that resonated most and identify 2-3
steps you can take for each to create positive change. Once implemented, return to this list and tackle two more.
