TYPE WA (WEDGE ANCHORAGE) – It shows a barrel and wedge type anchorage.

In this type, helical

reinforcement is provided around the body of anchorage. The helical reinforcement takes care of the
anchorage zone stresses which arise due to the application of heavy concentrated force applied at the
anchorage. The application of the pre-stressing force is as follows. Hydraulic jack pull each tendon in
sequence. The hydraulic pressure causes the desired extension. On the release of this jack pressure, the
strand slightly contracts. This makes the wedge to get it locked between the barrel and strand. After
jacking is over the grouting is done through the ducts. In post – tensioning system, the ducts are to be
formed for the alignment of the pre – stressing cable. Duct formers of different types are used,
depending on our requirements. Flexible, corrugated galvanized steel strips are used in case of curved
profiles. Steel tubes are used as duct former incase of offshore platforms. Plastic tube formers are used
in chemically resistant environment. After completion of the process of pre – stressing the anchorages
are encased in concrete.

TYPE BA (BUTTON ANCHORAGE) - This anchorage is suitable where the tendons comprise of wires. In
this type, the wires are not protruding outside the anchorage. These anchorages are suitable for short
members. As the button heads are to be fitted exactly, the initial lengths between the ends are to be
measured correctly.
