Check rectifier diodes (picture 2) measure resistance at all 6 rectifier diodes. Check the barring direction (4). Results: When the rectifier diode is in order the gauge will display a high resistance and after chan ging of the measuring cables will show a low resistance. At failure notification (overvoltage, e. g.: E 97 5923) from the ZF gearbox control unit the failure reason in most cases can be found at the voltage regulator (> 29,5 V) of the generator. Therefor as first action for remedy the voltage regulator should be exchanged. At the same time further components of the generator (diodes, collectors) should be checked while the gene- rator is dismantled. Generator - test notes, see page 2. 1. Dismantle the generator (1) 2.
